The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is inviting applications for internships to promote higher information of global issues and supply and give perception into the jobs of the United Nations. Who is eligible to apply?

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school program or should be in the final academic year of a first university degree program. Graduates with a university degree can also apply.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English would be desirable besides skills in digital communication. 
  • What will also add value to the application is a student’s working knowledge of any one or more of the official United Nations languages, like Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, or Russian.
  • Although the internship is based out of Bonn, Germany, students can work from their home countries.
  • No particular working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the ability to interact with individuals coming from different cultural backgrounds, and beliefs, and should be tolerant of different views and opinions.

Roles and Responsibilities

Students who are selected as interns at the UNCCD will closely work under the supervision of the public information associate.

  • Interns would be required to add productivity and value besides assisting in the management of online communications, products, and other activities.
  • The social media handles across all platforms shall be managed by the interns which they shall use to research and produce more information. 
  • The internship at UNCCD also requires the interns to work on better reach for their posts that will be created online by adding infographics, images, and other creative content formats. 
  • At the end of the internship, the intern is expected to complete an evaluation questionnaire on his/her assignment and submit it to his/her Supervisor.

UNCCD Internship Checklist

Interested candidates must send in a cover letter that talks about how their skill set aligns with the role along with their Curriculum Vitae (CV). They have to fill out the application form of UNCCD. Added to that, all the documents that are related to their application should be sent via email to staffing@unccd.int. If, in any case, the intern is unable to complete his/her internship due to an underlying illness or an unavoidable circumstance, he/she must inform the UNCCD. The internship with UNCCD is unpaid. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, medical, and living expenses square measure the responsibility of the intern or his/her sponsoring establishment.
