Iconic comedian Milton Berle said- ‘If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door’.

We brought together students from different campuses across the capital to have lighthearted but insightful conversations with Ankit Aggarwal. It showcased how students across the nation and the whole Unstop community are building not one but multiple doors and countless opportunities for all by #BreakingBoundaries.

Students (read- Unstoppable Talent) explain how every bit of college life, from societies to competitions to canteen conversations, can be a learning experience. And openly share their thoughts on what companies can do to improve their hiring processes.

The Key Insights

Throughout the podcast, the conversations flowed naturally, with all speakers (including the Cool CEO) making their thoughts known on a plethora of topics on college and life afterward. These insights can help students make the most of their college experience and help companies learn what students really want.

The Impact of College Societies

Ankit Aggarwal asked students to share their points of view on how they think societies help them build the skill set that companies are looking for.

Muskaan Mishra responded by explaining how getting society work done helped her become a multitasker. Lakshminarayan M added that societies provide opportunities to network and converse with diverse people that one might not come across in routine life. Being active in societies not only helps build resumes but also helps learn lessons that are not a part of any textbook.

Winning Is Not Everything When It Comes To Competitions

Competitions for hiring and engagement are a huge part of today's student life and hiring landscape. In the discussion on the importance of such an event, Lakshita Khachangi shared how, contrary to popular belief, she thinks it is the experience that counts and not the victory.

In fact, the unanimous opinion was that competitions teach students countless skills whose importance is often underestimated, but their impact is huge. (Think PPT-making skills, communication, teamwork spirit, and more!). They also offer insight into an industry, its working, and the brand itself, none of which can be ignored.

What Are Dreams (Companies) Made Of?

The podcast reiterated how the notion of ‘Dream Companies’ isn't all that it once was. In reality, the future workforce is looking for more than just status when picking where to work. While big names may draw more attention, the actual role, company culture, and opportunity for learning and growth are important factors that students take into consideration.

The Perfect Hiring Process

The Unstoppable students also had a message for HRs and the top management of companies. They shared how there is a need for transparency in the hiring process and well-rounded placement talks explaining what companies have to offer.

Devanshi Shah added that companies need to make their offerings more aspirational to attract the right talent. Yash Sahu and others agreed that companies should lean towards a more democratized approach when deciding on the pool of applicants. Aarya Oganja reprised one of the core Unstop principles that companies should look at more than just a resume when making hiring decisions.

I am an economics graduate using my qualifications and life skills to observe & absorb what life has to offer. A strong believer in 'Don't die before you are dead' philosophy, at Unstop I am producing content that resonates and enables you to be #Unstoppable. When I don't have to be presentable for the job, I'd be elbow deep in paint/ pencil residue, immersed in a good read or socializing in the flesh.
