V-Guard The Big Idea Contest 2017-A Business Plan Competition

V-Guard Industries Ltd is a leading electronics and electrical company with its presence in 29 locations in India. V-Guard enjoys brand popularity all over India and is steadily making a global presence with its increasing exports and markets spread over the world.

The Big Idea Contest 2017 was open for students who are pursuing Engineering and Postgraduate Management Program. The participating candidates were asked to form teams with 3 members.

The competition was aimed to receive a thoroughly researched, creative and a comprehensive business plan for the future growth and consolidation of V-Guard.

The contest spanned across 6 phases-

Phase I: Registration

The teams registered online by paying a fee of INR 1000/- on or before 25th September 2017.

Phase II: Online Briefing

Post registration the teams were sent an online brief on the challenge and the Business plan that needs to be submitted.

Phase III: Executive Summary Submission

All the registered teams took a cue from the briefing and submitted an executive summary on the case on or before 26th September 2017.

Phase IV: Declaration of Finalists

After evaluating the entries, best 20 executive summaries were selected to take part in the next round. View the complete details of The Big Idea Contest 2017 here.

Phase V: Final report Submission

The Top 20 teams submitted their complete and final business plan for further evaluation.

Phase VI: Business Plan Contest Finals

In the last leg of the contest, the teams took part in an oral presentation before the judges on 3rd & 4th November 2017 in Cochin, Kerala.


Teams were asked to submit their Business Plan on-

V-Guard is all set for the next giant leap in Appliances Segment. What do you think should V-Guard’s strategy be? What products should it launch?”

Evaluation Criteria

The entries submitted should have covered all aspects of a typical business plan which are as follows-

  • Feasibility Study of the Business Idea supported by a Consumer Research
  • Customer Value Analysis
  • Financial Feasibility and Projections
  • Market Penetration and Market Development Plan

After winning the series of evaluations, Team Valkyri from IIM Raipur comprising of Priyanjit Ghosh, Prateek Chordia, Akshay Chaturvedi made it to the top followed by Team Longclaw from IIM Kozhikode as the first runner-up and team Troika-2 from XIM Bhubaneswar as the second runner-up.
