Our strategy for solving the case at hand
We did extensive research on various factors that influence healthcare outcomes. We ideated numerous solutions that could add value along the patient journey. In the end, we distilled our pool of ideas to present one definitive business intervention that would find its place across the patient journey. We were keen on presenting a business idea that was solid in its conceptualization. In addition, we ensured that it was a realistic and innovative mix of elements and variables that were already present in the US healthcare ecosystem.
We were elated when we were informed that we were one of the seven teams that had made it to the National Finals in Hyderabad. It was a fantastic experience meeting the other teams. The participants were completely focussed towards presenting their ideas in compelling and impactful ways. We competed with several B-Schools that define the business education landscape of India. It was our collective passion for healthcare and technology that held us in good stead as we passed through multiple rounds.

Our Optum Stratethon journey started with the three of us (Sourav Ghosh, Paresh Rajpurohit and Gopikrishna Panicker) coming together. We squeezed in discussion hours into the late hours of the night (or the wee hours of the morning), while juggling with the multiple case discussions and assignment submissions that are a part and parcel of the MBA coursework in IIM Ahmedabad.
Our team consisted of Sourav Ghosh, a Pharma and Tech professional with expertise in IT strategy and Agile digital transformation, Paresh Rajpurohit, a Tech professional with significant experience in health insurance, specialty pharma and public sector and Gopikrishna Panicker - a Medical professional with significant experience in pharmaceutical drug development.
It was humongous team effort. We worked in great tandem as we systematically built our business solution for the finale. It was our collective experience and competence in understanding the warp and weft of the US healthcare network that helped us win the day!
An insight into the competition
We have learned to look at business ideas related to healthcare in more diverse ways. Nothing beats the moment when we were announced as the National Runners Up of Optum Stratethon.
During the presentation, the impressively experienced panel of judges scrutinized every idea for its merit and possibilities. Competitive fervor lingered in the air. The environment was vibrant and pulsating with academic verve and enthusiasm. We loved the Optum Stratethon Grand Finale event. We would like to thank the entire Optum team for giving all the finalists this excellent opportunity. Also, we would like to thank the Dare2compete team who organized the entire competition and logistics seamlessly for us. We take back great memories of the event. We hope that IIM Ahmedabad will again live up to its name as one of the premier business schools of India at next year’s Stratethon.
