Anyone who has sat across a panel of interviewers knows how chaotic the mind can be during an interview. The pressure and nervousness tick up slowly as the interviewer moves from "tell me about yourself" to more difficult questions!

While usually, the practice is to only ask questions relevant to the job, sometimes interview questions can take a wrong turn and get really, really weird..

The immediate pressure of the interview may not make us realize it. But once we reflect on it, it's sure to make us think "Umm.. why did he ask me that?"

Well, brace yourself as we bring to you 10 such weird questions asked during a job interview that has left netizens in awe & splits in equal measure.

Here we go!

1. “Do you know who is Vyjayanthimala?”

Interviewer: Do you know who is Vyjayanthimala? Me: Yes, an old-time actress. Why? Interviewer: Oh, your face reminded me of her. Me: Thank you for your time. After the interview, wrote back to HR - I would not be interested in the position - As am looking for a professional organization to work with. Thank you for your time.”

2. “Can you draw an otter for us?”

“At the time I'm a software engineer with 4 years of experience applying to a software engineer role. I work on video games and expect the interview to be a little unique; I'm guessing it's a test of my attention to detail and flexibility. Interviewer: ‘Can you draw an otter for us?’ Me: ‘Sure, any special characteristics of the otter”? I ask thinking I am cleverly signaling my cooperative nature. Interviewer: ‘Nope just an otter’, I go ahead and draw an Otter that would lose in a kindergarten art competition over the course of the next 6 minutes. They evaluated my otter, complimented the smiley face I drew on it, and then went on to interview the next person.”

3.“Where is Bhavya?”

“I was among the hundreds of college graduates trying to get placed waiting for my interview round. Distant voice: “Bhavya Joshi” Looks like the panel is ready for me. I knocked, the interviewer looked at my resume and then asked. Where is Bhavya? Puzzled. I said I am Bhavya Joshi. Interviewer blurted: Oh! I was expecting a girl. “Sorry to disappoint” is all I could say. This was not the first time when somebody had high hopes because of my feminine name. I have disappointed many men in the past. Both of us looked at each other, embarrassed. Eventually hired. And this is how my career started, with an embarrassment.”        – Bhavya Joshi

4.“Have you ever supervised Americans?”

“I was a new arrival from India to California with a Green Card. I applied for a job with a famous company. I was interviewed by a few people. The final interview was with the hiring manager. She: This job involves supervising 12 non-management people. Have you had any supervisory experience? Me: I said yes I have supervised people. She: Have you ever supervised Americans. Me: (my first reaction was to tell her NO. But I did not say it. I thought for 10 seconds and then said) Why are you asking me this question. Are they (Americans) difficult to supervise? She leaned back and laughed and laughed. And then said: You are hired.”

5.“What would you do if you are asked to buy 10 Pcs of the same Paper Weights?”

In an interview for the post of Trainee Procurement, I was asked, “What would you do if you are asked to buy 10 Pcs of the same Paper Weights “ (Showing the glass paper wights laying on the table). I found it a strange questions and said some stupid answers. However, I was selected and served in that position for a few years. It is still strange to me why they had asked such a question and appointed me eventually. However, this made me believe that it is not an interview but my focus that matters most. I remained focused and answered in my own way without any judgment whatsoever.”
