Can non-IITians fetch high packages at big firms? Yes, of course! Shattering all such preconceptions, Prayagraj’s Abhijeet Dwivedi from IIIT Lucknow has received a whopping package of INR 1.2 crore at Amazon. This is IIIT Lucknow's highest-ever annual salary package awarded to a student.
Soft skills are as important as technical skills
Abhijeet, who is pursuing final year of B.Tech in Information Technology, lays a lot of importance on soft skills. In an interview with Times of India, he said, “Soft skills matter a lot, hence engineering graduates should not think that they just need to have technical knowledge. Communication skills and body language are also equally important.” Abhijeet said that he watched many interview videos online that helped him fine-tune his body language and other soft skills needed for a job interview.
Word of Advice
Abhijeet Dwivedi who will be placed in Amazon’s Dublin office as software development engineer has a piece of advice for his juniors. He said “To get a decent job, one should work on specific things. Staying in touch with seniors to know about job opportunities and taking tips from them to crack interviews can be quite helpful.” Apart from this, he believes that students must develop profiles on popular job platforms to look for freshly updated job postings.
A memorable year for IIIT-Lucknow!
It has been a successful year for IIIT Lucknow as the institute has been able to place all of its students. As per records, sixty-one students have been placed while the remaining four have opted for higher education. According to Dr. Arun Mohan Sherry, director of IIIT-Lucknow, this year the average annual salary package of the institute was INR 26 lakhs while until last year, the maximum package offered was of INR 40 lakhs approximately.
With mega-firms focussing not just on IITs but on other institutes as well for their highly paid positions, the trend seems to be quite encouraging for non-IIT engineering students.
