My internship at Hexaware Technologies was a dream come true experience -By Tushar Ambre from JBIMS
Amidst the global pandemic caused by COVID-19, wherein widespread uncertainty surrounded the world I consider myself grateful to be a part of a 2-month internship program at Hexaware Technologies. A situation where many companies decided to go for layoffs and pay cuts, many of them emerged as a ray of hope. One such among them was Hexaware Technologies. Like many, they did not revoke their internship offers, rather they turned up even stronger. Focusing not only on the customer experience but also on adding value to each person associated with it, Hexaware Technologies had stood true to its values.
Induction: It begins here…
At a time where most of the internships were either delayed or cancelled, my internship began right on time. Thanks to Priya Nair who worked hard to set the stage. It was Day 1, interactions with top HR executives and global heads were conducted at first to clear all the doubts about how work was to be done in these situations. All those doubts about how to go about a virtual internship had been handled well. It was a virtual induction, but Hexaware still ensured that we had insightful and enriching interactions during the induction week with the senior management. We got to interact with the Executive Vice President & Global Head - Hi-tech & Professional Services, Arun Ramchandran (Rak), and the Chief People Officer (CPO) - Dr. Vishwanath Joshi where they made us comfortable with the setup and the culture. The most interesting thing about this internship was to experience the true culture even though the interactions were virtual.
In times of such an unprecedented pandemic, we were really well guided as to how interns should advance in the best way possible. Further, we also had overview sessions on each vertical and horizontals were leaders at top management levels came up and explained how actually the respective horizontal or vertical functions. These sessions cleared all the doubts which we had and made us more comfortable with the organization and its culture.
Something about the project: Nothing made up, all real
One thing I liked most about the internship at Hexaware was that the projects on which we worked were real business problems. All the interns got to work and experience real-life business problems and give solutions and recommendations for the same. I was working under the Digital Assurance unit. Sameerah Praveen and Vishvesh Arumugam, as my guide, prepared me to face challenges head-on and conquer them. Their motivation and leadership made me more productive and helped me convert my skills into my strengths.
The project focussed on the digital assurance of application with a major scope in the inclusion of AI/ ML in testing applications. It involved analyzing the market, the competition, and the testing tool vendors and finding the current state in this domain. We had a lot of feedback and review sessions which made the results sharper and helped us with the completion of the project. It is necessary to have periodic discussions with your immediate superiors so that the project is executed on the intended lines. Also, these sessions pointed me to the areas that I needed to work on. I am the sum of all my experiences and, those experiences include my interactions with everyone, during my internship.
Another angle of my internship at Hexaware was how all the work was perfectly balanced with stress-busting activities. The HR team always made sure to add an element of fun to it. Despite the gloomy situation, we played some fun games online with all the interns and some of the management officials aboard.
Lessons garnered
My journey of virtual internship at Hexaware provided invaluable experiences, and the lessons learned from it will remain with me forever. It helped me to develop skills, whether it is problem-solving skills, presentation skills depicting consulting flavour, data visualization tools, etc. Also, gaining insight into how the industry views your work, is perhaps one of the most critical skills for recognizing and synergizing with consumer expectations.
Further mentor feedback can never be overlooked, especially when it comes to learning. During my internship, the major one was how to showcase your understanding and approach in the most unique way, and how to be impactful on the storyboard with any audience. Finally, it taught me how creative learning is necessary for any industry.
A token of gratitude
I would like to go forward and appreciate Hexaware Technologies for all that they have done. I am grateful to Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies and everyone involved in the process of bringing such life-changing opportunities to us. Coming from an IT background, I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to do an internship at Hexaware Technologies. In a nutshell, it was a dream come true experience and an asset takeaway.
