After pursuing Telecommunication Engineering for four years I was lucky to get multiple opportunities in my life. I knew I didn’t want to be an engineer in the future and wasn’t prepared to jump right back into academics and the world of IT. So here is my story when I resigned from a company and joined CAT coaching classes.
I was not happy with my boss and a set of peers who were either incredibly passionate or wanted to catch the first flight out of India. Nonetheless, after looking at a computer screen and strange lines of code, I was not feeling good.
I would come home and crib to my parents on a daily basis about how unhappy I was. After meeting my friends over the weekend, I would hear stories of people who made it to their dream universities abroad. Once, the 23-year old Garbine Muguruza lifted her second Grand Slam trophy at a Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. However, I had yet to explore my destination and purpose. Yes, it was time for me to leave.
My family has always supported me. Well, it was time for me to resign. I wrote a resignation letter and enrolled in the CAT coaching class. This was the ultimate decision I took. I realized that I had to take complete ownership of my life.
I must admit that I witnessed a change in my confidence level with time. There was a wave of happiness and I began enjoying my days. I would go swimming, sharpen my quantitative, verbal and logical abilities. Also, I would often meet a friend or watch a movie in a week.
However, after preparing for months I got into a state of despair. During this phase, I began spending more time in front of the television.
This was a phase I didn’t want to admit about. I was going through a lot. Well, two personal shocks in close succession in the family left me with two choices; perform or keep worrying. I worked hard to remind myself why I decided to appear for a B-school in the first place. It wasn’t a ticket to a better life, but it was the only way of living a meaningful life. That entire year taught me to stay brave, calm and make conscious choices.
When I appeared for interviews, I chose to speak openly about my achievements and bad times. I understood the value of showing clarity of thoughts, objectivity and building logical arguments during difficult situations. For instance, while preparing for group discussions, I would always ask myself, “Is this going to make a positive difference in this discussion?"
I do not know how many people in this world are brutally honest with you. They’re probably scared to be a part of your own you. But there’s one person who will always be honest with you. It is You!
Personally, whenever I was brutally honest with myself, I found the right direction. Being at NMIMS, I learned to understand my strengths, weaknesses, and purpose with a more joyful life. If you are here to read about how to crack any competitive exam like CAT exam, I’m sorry I don’t think it is the right piece. But I hope you now have an idea of fighting with your inner demons.
