Why I chose SME IIT Jodhpur for my MBA over other colleges? -By Nidra Chakraborty

A graduate in Biomedical Engineering from Government Engineering College, Gandhinagar, with almost two years of work experience in pharma consulting at a start-up, she has worked closely with top management. Here is an excerpt from her journey reflecting on what made her chose SME IIT Jodhpur for her MBA over other colleges.

The industry exposure transformed my personality because I was subjected to a 360-degree view of how a business operates and made me understand the industry's nitty-gritty, such as the decision-making process and various client acquisition methods. During my tenure, I realized I lacked certain aspects of core business concepts and decided to pursue an MBA.

School of Management and Entrepreneurship (SME) at IIT Jodhpur started its flagship MBA program in 2020 with a differentiating factor. It is the first MBA in pan Asia to offer a Tech-MBA pathway. At the time of taking the decision, I considered various factors; we are devoid of seniors, we have the freedom to mark our legacy, and can try to instill values that we as a batch believe in. 

Carving a path to success

We are a cohort of 70 students representing 20+ states with an unflinching passion for giving our best and moving ahead as a team. We do not have a path to follow, but we can carve out our journey. As the first batch of SME IIT Jodhpur, we have the fire in the belly to outshine in every task that we undertake. Our vision of giving back to our alma mater and making a mark of SME as one of the country's top-ranked MBA programs has bound us all in these unprecedented times where we are only virtually connected.

A well-oiled machine of batchmates and faculty

It has been 1.5 months since this journey began, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. As a batch, we conducted pre-induction week, one of its kinds of students-run events to break the ice amongst ourselves even before the official induction program began. And since then, we have never looked back. Be it our induction week, clubs, and committees formation and forming student groups, we have done it all. Despite not meeting anyone in person, we have been successful in fostering friendships with each other. We have successfully carried out group presentations, group assignments, and other group activities with maximum participation from every group member.

Our faculty has been mentoring us since day one. We feel immensely fortunate to be able to get trained under the tutelage of people of this stature and honor. We are given adequate freedom to mold ourselves into the kind of business leader to aspire to become, along with proper guidance wherever required.

Cherishing unparalleled opportunities of the IIT system and the new curricula

SME is a place where every budding entrepreneur should aspire to be. Entrepreneurship in ingrained in the curriculum in a way that brings out the entrepreneurial spirit in every individual. SME has stayed true to its promise to deliver a corporate-centric MBA program with a revamped pedagogy. Every day is a new challenge which is filled with an enthusiasm that reflects in every activity undertaken.

Today when I look back, I do not have even an ounce of regret, but only a heart filled with gratitude. I feel massively privileged to be a part of the legacy-in-making wherein I can contribute my part. SME is giving me the unparalleled opportunities of the IIT system and the freshness of the new curricula, something that I always wanted. In a nutshell, I foresee SME as a part of the country's top MBA colleges and shall keep striving to do my bit in this history-in- making.
