If I have to decide a metaphor for my journey to where I am right now, it is definitely not going to be a giant roller coaster ride because there needs to be one elevation. But mine had more falls relative to the ups, descending under the ground. But even those falls were beautiful with so many hands holding mine. So, here is my journey on how working in the IT sector and late-night studies were not easy.
The background of this decision is so monotonous. An engineer doing an IT job, paying rent with a salary that coerces one to contemplate on the career choice is a tough one. With no compass in the wild, the best decision is to join a horde which at least guarantees security from wild animals if not the promise of a destination. If one has to study consistently to survive in IT, why don’t we do some hard work for a couple of years and live the rest of life peacefully? No, I do not think the same right now, but this mirage definitely attracted me once. This literally sums up all the motivation for this direction: a dream world with cash falling from the pockets while I travel to all the natural wonders of the world on weekends and take frequent vacations.
The motivation was unmatched. After paying a hefty amount to the coaching center, when you enter the very first time, you virtually achieve the goal. Aspirants doing self-study in the reading room, some attending the lectures and some laughing and studying in groups. It pushed me over the starting line of the race I was going to be a part of and the timer started. Initially, it was fun with new classes, new study material with that fascinating smell, new people and encouraging faculty. Everyone in that building always seemed pumped and excited.
Slowly, the summit of challenges was getting higher. The mocks changed the mood of the majority of the happy faces. The reality was harsh. But everything that happened during that phase wasn’t that bad. That phase led to the emergence of new friendships and the strengthening of the old ones. There was a thumb rule: Even if you yourself are demotivated, you have to keep that aside and encourage your friends. The individual goals started turning into group goals. I was a part of such a group of five. Nobody used to celebrate his high scores in mocks if even one from the group went low. It helped everyone get past the obstacles. It also inculcated a quality of humbleness and maturity. The journey was difficult, yet beautiful.
Slowly the scores started getting higher. But the inconsistency was still a challenge. Starting to identify weak areas was the key to overcome that. Working on weak topics that made me uncomfortable was difficult, yet necessary. The frequent notifications of the entrance exams and forms for the colleges raised an alarm. The peer pressure was increasing. The late-night studies and working in the IT sector were difficult to cope up with. But we kept running until the day arrived. Numb and yet nervous, we were still holding each others hand. If you have some trustworthy and worthy people around you then things get easier. At that time, attitude plays an important role than preparation.
After CAT, I was certain that my whole year was in danger. But with time, fortunately, I realized that there are many other exams that were good enough. However, the race was still on as I was working in the IT sector.
It was time for results. It became certain that still there was a long way to go. Some took the decision to reattempt and some decided to compromise. Fortunately, I had a chance to get into one of the target colleges that I am in right now. Yes, there was a little compromise, but everything has certain pros and cons. I can state this because I am happy with my decision. When I converted my call, I got into a mixed state of moods. The grief of parting ways with those who stood by you is devastating. But sooner or later, that always happens. It was anyways the individual goals that set the foundation of such lifetime relations.
