All that you need to know about Google Case Study Competition

Google India is proud to present its first ever Case Study Competition in India. Provide innovative solutions to problems shared in the case study & stand a chance to win PPI/PPSI with Google, cash prizes up to INR 2.5 lacs and amazing Google goodies!

Eligibility: Google Case Study Challenge is open to all 1st Year and 2nd Year students of the below mentioned B-Schools:

  • IIM Ahmedabad
  • NMIMS
  • S.P Jain
  • MICA Ahmedabad
  • IIM Indore
  • IIFT
  • MDI
  • IMT
  • FMS Delhi
  • IIM Lucknow
  • IIM Bangalore
  • IIM Kozhikode
  • IIM Calcutta
  • XLRI Jamshedpur
  • Indian School Of Business

Team Rules:

  • Participants should only be full-time students currently pursuing the flagship course at the institute
  • First and second year students irrespective of their specializations can participate in the competition
  • Students can participate in teams of minimum two and maximum three
  • Students across first and second year of the flagship program can be part of one team
  • Modification of the team composition or team details after the first round of submissions is not allowed
  • Students going on exchange programs can participate as long as there are at least 2 students in the team that aren't going for exchange programs
  • A person cannot be a member of more than one team
  • Any deviation from the above will result in immediate disqualification of the entire team
  • Google reserves the right to check the validity of the registration information submitted at any point of time
  • Ideas and content emerging from the contest are solely owned by Google including copyrights, and should not be posted or shared without prior approval

Registration And Case Study Allocation

ROUND 1 (Campus Round)

● The case study will be launched on 22nd August and will be shared with the Placement Committees/POCs of the aforementioned B-schools

● Teams have to submit their first round entries on or before 23:59 hours of 2nd September 2018 on the Google form circulated by Google

● The format of the submission will have to be a one-page Google slide converted to a pdf document. No other formats (including zip files) will be accepted

● The submission will have to be uploaded on the Google Form provided by us

● Participants have to choose one out of the two given case studies

● There are no restrictions on font size, style etc. but it should not result in a submission that is difficult to read by the evaluator

● The maximum size of the PDF document to be uploaded should not exceed 10MB

● The naming convention to be followed for the submission :

  • Campus name__CampusCity_Team Leader’s Full Name_Team name

● Multiple submissions are not allowed

● We urge the teams not to wait until the last moment to submit their entries as we shall not be responsible for any technical snags that may occur due to high volume

● All queries are to be routed through the Placement Committees/POCs only and not through individuals

● What we expect from the solution:

  • Originality, clarity, and uniqueness of the idea
  • Innovative approach to the given problem
  • Solution must be relevant to the given problem and should have a clear plan of action
  • Solution should be succinct yet self-explanatory
  • Feasibility of implementation, sustainability, scalability and it’s fit with Google’s vision
  • Tables, diagrams, and Charts are permitted on the one-pager but are not necessary (attachment of an appendix slide is not allowed)
  • Relevant assumptions, backed by the proper rationale
  • References/sources to be quoted where required (as footnotes)

ROUND 2 (Regional Round)

● The launch of the second round will coincide with the declaration of results of the first round on or before 14th September 2018
● One team per B-school to be selected to represent their campus in the respective regional rounds
● Case Study chosen during Round 1 cannot be changed in further rounds
● This round will be conducted across three regions, with the following division of campuses:

  • West Zone – IIM Ahmedabad, NMIMS Mumbai, SPJIMR Mumbai, MICA Ahmedabad, IIM Indore
  • North Zone – IIFT, MDI Gurgaon, IMT Ghaziabad, FMS Delhi, IIM Lucknow
  • South & East Zone – IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Calcutta, XLRI Jamshedpur, Indian School of Business
● The regional rounds will be held at the following campuses during the second half of the day (12 noon-7pm)
  • South & East Zone - IIM Calcutta on 24th September 2018
  • West Zone - NMIMS, Mumbai on 26th September 2018
  • North Zone - IIFT, Delhi on 28th September 2018
● The format of the submission will have to be Google slides and no other formats (including zip files) will be accepted
● Additionally, teams will also have to submit a PDF version of their submission for our reference
● The submission should not exceed 10 slides and there will be no scope of further modification for the rest of the competition duration
● You are free to select Font type, size, etc. but it should not result in a submission that is difficult to read by our panel, during the presentation
● The maximum size of the file to be uploaded cannot exceed 100MB each (slide and PDF)
● The naming convention to be followed as below:
  • Campus name__CampusCity_Team Leader’s Full Name_Team name
● Second round submissions by the shortlisted teams will have to be made on or before 23:59 hours of 23rd September 2018 on this email ID: google-case-study-competition@google.com
● Deadlines will not be extended
● Selected teams will present to a panel, and will get 15 minutes for presenting their idea, and 7 minutes for Q&A
● At least 2 members will have to be present for the presentation on the given day
● All queries are to be routed through Placement Committees/POCs only
● Teams breaching the above rules will be disqualified

ROUND 3 (National Finals)
  • The National Finals will be held at the Google Hyderabad campus in mid-October, 2018 
  • Top 2 teams from each region will participate in the National Finals
  • Teams will not be allowed to make any changes to their submissions made for the 2nd round
  • Selected teams will present to a panel, and will get 15 minutes for presenting their idea, and 7 minutes for Q&A
  • At least 2 members will have to be present for the presentation on the given day
