Eco-hackathon: Stages and Timelines

Round 1: Executive Summary Deck Submission (Online )

  1. PDF Submission (5 Slides Max) Goal:
  2. Idea validation and feasibility check.
  3. Status: Eliminatory.
  • Only shortlisted teams advance to Round 2.

Round 2: Prototype Development & Full Solution Submission (Online )

  1. Video Walkthrough: A 2-3 minute video demonstrating the working prototype/software logic.
  2. GitHub Repository: Access to the codebase (ReadMe must include setup instructions).
  3. Goal: Proof of Concept.
  4. Teams must demonstrate that the code runs and the logic works.
  • Status: Eliminatory.
  • Top finalists will be invited to campus.

Round 3: Final Pitching & Live Prototype Demo (Offline)

  1. Presentation & Demo in front of Jury.
  2. Goal: Final pitch, live debugging, and Q&A.
  • Timeline: During Technex '26 (13th-15th March 2026)
  • Location: IIT (BHU) Varanasi Campus
  • Format: Live

Eco-Hackathon:

  • Eco-Hackathon is a software-focused sustainability hackathon where participants design, develop, and demonstrate a working prototype addressing real-world sustainability challenges.
  • The competition emphasises practical implementation, technical depth, and measurable impact.

Problem Statements:

  • Problem Statements (PSs) will be released before the competition.
  • Teams may choose any one PS to work on.

Round 1: Executive Summary Deck Submission (Online):

  • Teams must submit a 4–5 slide executive summary deck including:
    • Team name and member details (name, role, institute)
    • Selected problem statement
    • Problem understanding and motivation
    • Proposed solution overview
    • Intended tech stack (tools, platforms, frameworks)
    • Expected sustainability impact
  • Only shortlisted teams advance to the on-campus hackathon.
  • Timeline:
    • Start: 10 Feb 2026, 12:00 PM IST
    • End: 15 Feb 2026, 11:59 PM IST

Round 2: Prototype Development & Full Solution Submission:

  • Shortlisted teams will have to do the following:
    • Build a working software prototype (mandatory)
    • Implement core functionalities of the solution
    • Submit a detailed solution deck covering:
      • Final problem definition
      • System architecture and workflow
      • Technical implementation details
      • Prototype description and usage flow
      • Feasibility, scalability, and sustainability impact
  • Timeline:
    • Start: 15 Feb 2026, 12:00 AM IST
    • End: 27 Feb 2026, 11:59 PM IST

Round 3: Final Pitching & Live Prototype Demo (Offline):

  • Live pitch before the jury
  • Demonstration of the working prototype
  • Jury Q&A on implementation, scalability, and deployment

About Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT - BHU)

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi is situated on the campus of Banaras Hindu University spread over nearly 1300 acres at the southern end of the ancient city of Varanasi on the banks of the holy river Ganga.
  • The Banaras Hindu University was established by Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Ji in the year 1916.
  • This Banaras Hindu University has teaching and research facilities in over 135 diverse disciplines including ancient history, oriental learning, performing and fine arts, management, science, social sciences, etc.
  • Later on, BHU started engineering education by being the first in the country to start degree courses in mining, metallurgy, ceramic engineering and pharmaceutics with the establishment of the College of Mining and Metallurgy and the College of Technology in the year 1923 and 1932 respectively.
  • In 1969, the above three colleges were amalgamated to form the Institute of Technology.
  • On 29th June 2012, the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU), got converted into Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi by the Government of India, New Delhi.
