Flight Fury: Stages and Timelines

Round 1 - Design Report

A design report of the plane, specialized for agility and dropping payloads, needs to be submitted in online mode

Round 2 - Presentation

The teams qualifying in the first round will be eligible for this round, involving the presentation of the design report, explaining the specifications selected for the plane with relevant reasoning. The actual model of the plane also needs to be showcased during the presentation.

Round 3 - Gliding and Payload Dropping

This round consists of two parts: Gliding and Payload Dropping.

Round 4 - Airshow

There will be an airshow where the team will have to perform different stunts with its plane. A number of stunts and successful execution of stunts will be awarded points. The judgment of this round will be subjective and solely by the judging authority.

All that you need to know about Flight Fury

Introduction:

Were you one of those kids who used to admire the RC Planes shown off by Sunio in Doraemon? Didn’t you, too, want to have one such plane and fly it all around? If that is so, here’s Aernove, presenting you an opportunity to fulfill your childhood dreams, offering you a platform to showcase your zeal towards building an RC Plane and putting it to the test for whether it can have some practical usage as well!

Problem Statement:

The participating teams have to design and build a working Remote-Controlled (RC) Plane satisfying the given constraints and suitable for the tests mentioned. The event is divided into four rounds:

  • Round 1 - Design Report
  • Round 2 - Presentation
  • Round 3 - Gliding and Payload Dropping
  • Round 4 - Airshow

Round 1 - Design Report:

  • Deadline for Submission: 26 February 2023
  • A design report of the plane, specialized for agility and dropping payloads, needs to be submitted in online mode, satisfying the following specifications -
    • The wingspan should not exceed 150 cm.
    • The maximum permissible weight (without payload) is 2500 grams.
    • 3 Cell 11.2V battery is the largest permitted size for a battery used for servos and the propeller motor.
    • The propeller motor should not weigh more than 70 gm and should not have a motor kV higher than 1000 kV.
    • The length of the aircraft should be no more than 200 cm.
    • Propeller length should not exceed 12 inches.
    • Only single-motor aircraft are permitted.
    • The use of gyroscopes, accelerometers, and other similar gadgets that provide automated assistance is strictly prohibited in flying.

The teams have to compile all of this information in a PDF file. If any extra files are to be included, the submission has to be in the form of a ZIP file. Please note that the files submitted should NOT be password protected or corrupted. In either of the cases, the submissions would be straightly rejected.

Rules for Abstract Submission:

  • An abstract of the idea needs to be uploaded on the Cognizance website or can be mailed to events@cognizance.org.in by 26th February 2023.
  • The cover page of the submission should include the following details of all team members along with the Team Name -
    • Name
    • City
    • Branch
    • E-mail
    • Institute Name
    • Contact No.
  • The file should be in PDF format only and the filename should be according to the following convention -
    • ABSTRACT_<EVENT_NAME>_<COGNI_ID>.PDF
    • (e.g. - ABSTRACT_DRONEPORT_COG190023.PDF)
  • The confirmation of acceptance of the submission will be informed via email to the participant.

Round 2 - Presentation:

The teams qualifying in the first round will be eligible for this round, involving the presentation of the design report, explaining the specifications selected for the plane with relevant reasoning. The actual model of the plane also needs to be showcased during the presentation.

Round 3 - Gliding and Payload Dropping: This round consists of two parts: Gliding and Payload Dropping.

  • Gliding:

Teams will have to climb their plane vertically for 20 seconds, turning their throttle to zero and letting their plane glide. They can steer their plane during glide mode, and there is no restriction on the trajectory employed. The evaluation would be based on gliding time. Greater gliding time would imply a better score.

Payload Dropping:

  • A payload weighing __ grams and of the dimensions ___will be provided. It will have to be dropped in a designated area. There will be five circles of different radii (like archery targets), with different points depending on where the payload lands. The evaluation will be based on the accuracy of placement and the time taken to complete the task.

Round 4 - Airshow:

  • There will be an airshow where the team will have to perform different stunts with its plane. A number of stunts and successful execution of stunts will be awarded points. The judgment of this round will be subjective and solely by the judging authority.

Final Evaluation: The overall score will be calculated by compiling the scores obtained in the four rounds, based upon which winners will be declared.

Guidelines:

  • Eligibility - Students pursuing Undergraduate Degrees in any discipline.
  • Team Size - A team can have a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 members.
  • No Double Troubles - Only one entry would be acceptable. In case of multiple entries, the latest one would be considered for evaluation.
  • Zero Plagiarism - The documents would be tested via special software for plagiarism. If some duplication is found, the entire work will be rejected from the competition.
  • Multistage Rules - The event comprises four rounds.
