The Boardroom: A Business Case Competition: Stages and Timelines

Submission Round (via Unstop)

The team will be provided with a file consisting of 4 cases on ethical dilemmas. The team has to pick one of the cases and try to work as the company board members to provide a solution to come out of the dilemma. The submission should be 2-slide (PPT) - excluding the title and thank you slide - in the form of a press release, official notice, roadmap, or anything you see fit for the case.

Proposal Submission

Teams that have been shortlisted will receive a case study. They are required to prepare a proposal in the role of a buyer. The case study will be released at the beginning of the submission window at 8 PM on 20th Nov 2023. Teams should have their presentation template ready to prevent submission delays. Please note that there will be no extensions to the deadlines. Teams will receive a mail before this round starts with further details. Teams need to submit their solution to the case as the role of buyer they are assigned. They will need to present the exact case submission in Virtual conference round.

Video Conference Round

This round will be held via Zoom. The necessary details will be sent to the teams that qualify over mail. Teams will compete against each other, acting as either a buyer or seller based on the provided case study. They will need to pitch their product/service in order to secure a deal. Teams will be evaluated based on their pitch and their ability to defend against questions from other teams and the judges. It’s important that arguments are ethically sound and that the deal is profitable.

Bring out your boardroom suits and this time don’t think everything will be black and white as you’ll be in the trenches as the best of the businessmen are sometimes. The Boardroom is an event where we give you plausible ethical dilemmas faced by businesses and see how well you sail through them in accordance with the stakeholders concerned. In the 2nd round, you have to bring out your best and others' worse so that you can get what both of you want!

Round 1: Submission Round (via unstop)

The team will be provided with a file consisting of 4 cases on ethical dilemmas. The team has to pick one of the cases and try to work as the company board members to provide a solution to come out of the dilemma. Start Date: 9th Nov 2023, 10:00 AM IST
End Date: 17th Oct 2023, 11:59 PM IST

Round 2: Strategic Showdown- Online Session

This round will be split into two parts:

Part 1: Proposal Submission
Teams that have been shortlisted will receive a case study. They are required to prepare a proposal in the role of a buyer.
The case study will be released at the beginning of the submission window, which is at 6 PM on 20th Nov 2023.
Teams should have their presentation template ready in advance to prevent any submission delays.
Please note that there will be no extensions to the deadlines.

Begins: 20th Nov 2023, 6:00 PM IST
Ends: 20th Nov 2023, 8:00 PM IST

Part 2: Video Conference Round
This round will be held via Zoom. The necessary details will be sent to the teams that qualify.
Teams will compete against each other, acting as either a buyer or seller based on the provided case study. They will need to pitch their product/service in order to secure a deal.
Teams will be evaluated based on their pitch and their ability to defend against questions from other teams and the judges.
It’s important that arguments are ethically sound and that the deal is profitable.

Rules and Regulations:

  • This is a team event with each team consisting of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 participants, all of whom must be enrolled in a graduate or a post-graduate program at the time of the submission.
  • Each team must have a team leader.
  • Only the submissions made by teams before the deadlines will be used.
  • Cross college teams are not allowed.
  • An institute can have any number of teams participating. However, if a team member is found participating as a part of more than one team, all such teams shall be disqualified.

Terms & Conditions:

  • All decisions in matters of eligibility, authenticity and final judgments will be with the organizing committee of Genesis, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta.
  • The format and structure of events on campus could be subject to change before the actual beginning of the event.
  • The decisions of the organizers will be final and binding on all participants.
