Elimination Round
Participants will have to submit a PDF file containing the following things in advance: name of college, list of participants, script, list of props, and a 10-15 minute video of a part of the play.
Final Round
On the basis of the script and video, a total of 6 teams will be selected to perform at Unmaad. The shortlisted teams will be informed via email and Unstop at least two weeks prior to the event

The stage is set, the lights are dimmed, and anticipation hangs in the air like a delicate veil. Welcome to Curtain Call – The Stage Play Event of Unmaad, where the boundaries between reality and fiction blur, and emotions take center stage. Calling all aspiring thespians and passionate storytellers to be a part of this experience! Whether you are a seasoned performer or a passionate newcomer, we welcome all theatre enthusiasts to join us on this exhilarating journey. The stage awaits your unique narratives, your powerful performances, and the magic that only you can create.
Rules and Regulations:
- Play can be in either English or Hindi or a blend between the two
- All genres are welcomed, including musical drama
- The play can either be an original or adapted script
- Use of flammable substances (e.g., candles, matches, cigarettes) and/or products containing alcohol is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification
- Multiple teams from the same college can participate
- Teams should have a minimum of 3 members (including stage crew) while the maximum limit on actors is 15 members
- Inappropriate content, religious blasphemy and vulgarity/obscenity are strictly prohibited
- Any damage to the stage/equipment will result in a penalty of 10-20% in scores along with fine payable (based on the discretion of the judges and team Unmaad)
- The teams are required to share their own sound files (.mp3/mp4 format) with team Unmaad at least 24 hours before the performance. In case of an emergency, teams are also requested to carry an offline copy of the file(s) on a pen-drive
- Teams are required to arrange their own travel. Accommodation to non-Bangalore teams will be provided by team Unmaad on IIM Bangalore premises
- During submission, teams are required to separately mention the name of the Director (who may also be an actor in the play), for nomination for the ‘Best Director’ Award
- In case of any discrepancy, judge's decision shall be final and binding
Rounds:
Elimination Round:
Participants will have to submit a pdf file containing the following items:
- Name of the college and production, list of participants, script, list of props, and a 10-15 minute preliminary video of a part of the play
- On the basis of the script and video, a total of 6 teams will be selected to perform at Unmaad. The shortlisted teams will be informed via email and Unstop at least two weeks prior to the event
Final Round:
- The time limit for the play is 50 minutes (empty stage to empty stage). A slot would be provided for technical runs, before the finals (7-10 min per team). No team will be allowed on stage beyond 60 minutes. Teams going over the time limit would be subjected to a penalty of 10% in scores
- Teams are required to arrange and handle their own props. In case of any requirement, they are required to inform team Unmaad at least 1 week before the performance. The organizing team will accommodate requests based on their availability on campus
Scoring Criteria:
- Acting: Acting is the soul of any play. The quality and talent of the actor is the determining factor in the success of the stage play. It contains a total weightage of 40 marks divided into:
- Depiction of characters: Depiction of character implies how well you drown yourself in the role assigned to you. It contains a weightage of 30 marks
- Voice clarity and diction: Actors should have clear diction and be clearly audible. They should also have a clear understanding of the energy level of their performance. It contains a weightage of 10 marks
- Direction: The director is the unsung hero of the play, their vision and execution defines the success of the play. It has been given a weightage of 30 marks, further divided into:
- Adaptation/clarity of idea: The Director’s vision of bringing the script to the stage, their understanding and adaptation of the text, as well as the clarity of central themes of the play, contains a weightage of 15 marks
- Blocking: It includes how well you utilize the space provided to you. It contains a total weightage of 5 marks
- Attention to detail: Use of lighting, depicting the time in which the play occurs, and how well the scene flows, all are included in this. It contains a total of 10 marks
- Stage production: Along with a strong vision, the representation of the play is key to communicating the idea, mesmerizing the audience, and impressing the judges. Therefore, stage production contains a weightage of 30 marks. These 30 marks are divided into:
- Costume: The costumes of the actors must match their roles. It contains a weightage of 10 marks
- Use of props: 10 marks are assigned to the efficient and innovative use of props
- Music and light: Background music and lights tie the emotions and enhance the impact of the play. Hence, it contains a weightage of 10 marks
