Aditya Birla Group's HeadstaRt: The Winning Experience

The HeadstaRt competition with its mix of simulations, HR case study and a presentation in front of stalwarts of HR in Aditya Birla Group was an opportunity we did not want to miss.

Our journey started with forming a team and registering for the competition. I was blessed to have an amazing team with complementary skills and knowledge base.

Post registration once the simulation game was unfurled we had put our best efforts by coordinating with each other to clear the test. We progressed to the case study round and our preparation consisted mostly of brainstorming, bouncing ideas off each other, talking to industry experts, IR practitioners, teachers, and our seniors.

We worked on the case study for a week as that was the timeline given to us. The most challenging phase was addressing the root cause of the problem and not getting deviated with surface issues. We also had a paucity of time due to the academic rigor followed at our college. We had to resort to a balancing act to get on well with both of them.

Even though, we all as team members were committed to that path, there were numerous times when we did not agree with the point of view of one another. However, our mutual respect never let our disagreements become conflicts. We tried to resolve these issues by rationalizing why a certain idea would not work and come to a conclusion through discussion. Often we trusted each others judgment of even if we did not completely agree with his/her idea. These made us learn a lot about teamwork.

Our forte was hard work, complementary talents, and skills and diverse viewpoints of looking at the same topic. If one was a great speaker, another was very efficient in bringing ideas together and the third kept the team on track and motivated. Complementarity was one of our key strengths.

In the end, we had an opportunity to present our ideas to the senior HR leaders and other industry experts from the Aditya Birla Group. The competition was completely fair and unbiased. The organization of the event, especially the finale, was fantastic.

HeadstaRt 2018 Winners

Initially, I thought it was unbelievable but a part of me thought that we had a chance. We were declared as the 1st runners-up. This felt like a great achievement considering the pedigree of our fellow competitors.

The learning that I have received from this competition cannot be quantified. Some of the moments that I hold close to my heart are - learning a lot about the given topic, meeting the top HR leadership from Aditya Birla Group, meeting other teams from premier B-Schools and the camaraderie I build with my team members.

Each corporate organized competition is unique in its own way. From structure to judging criteria. Read more about Aditya Birla Group’s HeadstaRt and the organizers Aditya Birla Group. Other competitions organized by Aditya Birla Group; Aditya Birla Group's Stratos 2018
