Pursue an MBA to get ahead in Tech
You must have heard the famous quote: “Life is not a bed of roses”. Before we proceed further, I would like to tweak this a little. Life is a bed of buds. Confused, eh? Let me help you paint this picture better. We live in a world full of people who have dreams to achieve something big, to get famous, to get recognized for what they’ve done. Amongst them, we have people subtly divided into two categories: the ones who move mountains to make things work in their favour and the others who spend their lives dreaming, not wanting to move a finger. Where these two predominantly govern the category list, the latter is the dominating group, which I’d like to call “buds”.
But why did I call them buds and what exactly am I referring to?
Buds bloom into beautiful flowers, taking different shapes as they grow. But the ones which don’t, shrivel and fall off the branch even before they breathe. To bloom into a flower and not remain a bud like many others, to achieve your dreams, you’ll have to take that extra step that’ll help you pave your career path. In short, if you ask me whether or not an MBA will help you get ahead in tech, my answer will be: Yes!
To prove my point and to give you reasons to agree with my word, I’ve sorted a few points for your reference below.
1. The need of Management in Technology (M+T = Mt = Mountain)
Rapid technological advancements, require undergraduate students, expert in the field of technology, to be swift in figuring out their competitor’s next move. They must be able to streamline their thought process and have confidence to project new, better ideas to senior management. B-Schools train students to take quick and impactful decisions.
The art of managing things, prioritizing the ones that are important and not missing out on any, is what an MBA instills within you. In addition, a degree in management inevitably adds brownie points to your CV, giving you an extra edge over the others.
2. The role of MBA in Technology
If you’re still wondering about the connection between the two, I’d like to break this to you: MBA jobs are closely interlinked with that of technology. The prominent domains of Sales, Finance, Operations and Business Development require technology experts. The emerging field of Data Analytics and Data Science, that makes use of the ubiquitous big data, is in dire need of product managers and product marketing managers who have the knowledge of both: technology and business. In fact, premier colleges like IIM Ahmedabad have gladly acknowledged the need to bridge this gap. A step ahead of the others, they've started a PGP course in Advanced Business Analytics.
3. Experiential Learning: Setting B-Schools apart
Since long, B-Schools have been famous for laying tremendous emphasis on experiential learning. Setting them apart from all other graduate courses, MBA colleges give students the relevant exposure in team building in addition to giving them opportunities to enhance their skills in communication. Here, corporate competitions play a crucial role. From helping students dive deep into the skill of making efficient and effective decisions to giving them an idea of what real-world business challenges are, MBA graduates have been there, done that. With an insight into the corporate realm along with the ability to work under stress, an MBA degree adds a pinch of salt, helping you push your boundaries and get ahead in tech.
4. The Business degree will take you places
B-Schools are known for building business acumen in students, allowing them to broaden their field of thought and take different ideas into perspective. When students integrate this business knowledge with their tech skills, they have a comprehensive skill-set to make use of. Apart from minimizing the prevailing gap between technology and business, an MBA degree along with that of technology, gives you a wide arena to play in. You are no longer confined to working in the tech domain only, but are, instead, free to explore a variety of fields. Opening doors for a surprisingly large number of options, a B-School degree helps you find your true potential and identify the roles which fit you the best.
Not all buds bloom into flowers. To metamorphose into one, you need to jump off the ledge. Where you might come across bright opportunities to grow in tech with a mere undergrad degree in technology, an MBA will definitely help you get ahead in tech.
Do the buds and flowers make sense now? Go ahead, take the leap and see yourself transform beautifully.
