Unstop Competitive Leader 2018 Shashwat Wins INR 75 Lakhs At KBC
The thing about brilliant minds is that no matter what, they will always shine through. They have a spotlight attracting quality. One such talented youth is Shashwat Goel from IIM Lucknow (2016-18), who is currently working at Flipkart and making ripples with his spectacular performance at Kaun Banega Crorepati.
The IIM alumni walked away with The Big B’s admiration and INR 75 Lakhs. This is not the first time he has managed to win it all.
Most people remember Goel as the most astute contestant on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), season 14. The episode aired on October 11, 2022, and celebrated Mr. Bachchan’s 80th birthday. It had a special appearance by his family members, who joined in to mark the special day.
But even the makers of the show didn’t know that the episode would become even more special - thanks to this contestant! Shashwat Goel had answered 16 questions and was closer to winning INR 1 Crore. Now, he was attempting the INR 7.5 Crore question.
Everyone was spellbound and holding their breath. But Goel who managed to take the biggest superstar of Bollywood in his sway is not a novice. Prior to appearing on KBC, he won innumerable accolades. As a child prodigy, he had represented India internationally at the Bournvita Quiz Contest, hosted by the now Rajya Sabha MP, Derek O’Brien.
He is an NTSE scholar for being a meritorious student. He went on to earn degrees in computer science and management from IIIT Delhi and IIM Lucknow, respectively.
Goel continued with his rockstar ways through his MBA days as well. He was the 3rd Most Competitive Leader 2018, as declared by Unstop - a leader in the campus engagement space, and both students and organisations vie for the coveted title.
In KBC, he humbly introduced himself as a management strategist. Upon being asked by Mr. Bachchan what his job entailed, he said his job is a “fusion of technical and management skills."
It wasn't long before everyone realised that he was more than a white collar employee. He answered each question using deductive reasoning. Goel is a live example of how one can use the ‘science of deduction’ to reach a conclusion. He gave an explanation of why a particular option was correct. Soon, the audience started finding a correlation between him and the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes.
Goel left with a cash prize of INR 75 lakh and tons of respect from the audience and The Big B himself. Not winning INR 7.5 Crores did not shatter him. He recalled his mother, whose dream was to see him in the hot seat. Goel sadly lost her during the pandemic, and since then, he has been chasing a more holistic way of life.
Shashwat Goel from IIM Lucknow, working at Flipkart, winner KBC; who is also a volunteer educator is an inspiration to each and every one of us.
