CRISIL Young Thought Leader (CYTL) 2017
Numbers have always been important in business and with digitisation in every sector, numbers have become all the more important. It was the meticulous analysis of numbers in relation to the contemporary market scenario made Dr Raghuram Rajan, erstwhile chief of Reserve Bank of India and the Chief Economist at IMF to predict the 2009 US Financial Crisis.

To bring this world of numbers and analytics into the awareness of the students CRISIL has started with CRISIL Young Thought Leader (CYTL) Program in 2001. CTYL entered its 17th year in 2017. The CRISIL Young Thought Leader program is an annual competition that recognises game-changing ideas from campuses. View the details of the competition here.

CRISIL (formerly Credit Rating Information Services of India Limited) is a global analytical company providing ratings, research, and risk and policy advisory services.

CTYL 2017 was open to both First and Final year students of MBA program. The students were asked to submit a dissertation on any of the topics as stated below-

Global-

  •  How should CRISIL's talent acquisition strategy change in the next 5 years?

  • Political and regulatory response to the financial markets crisis.


Innovation-

  • Digital disruption

  • Future of sell-side research in a post MiFID II world


Analytics-

  • The quest for 'alternative data'  

  • Predictive analytics - myth or reality


Agility-

  • How can organisations strike a balance between tighter regulations, higher governance requirements, and financial goals?


The individual participants were asked to submit their idea in the form of a dissertation with a maximum of 2500 words (8 pages) in an MS-word format. The entries received were judged by the jury of CRISIL on following criteria-

  1. Originality of thought  

  2. The depth of research analysis  

  3. Quality of writing (style and presentation)  

  4. Effective use of data


Upon evaluation 7 students (one winner per topic) were declared as winners of CRISIL Young Thought Leader (CYTL) 2017. The winners were Sibin Sabu and Alok Sheth from XLRI Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, Vibhor Mittal from Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, Suraj Surendran from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow, Sourabh Lalwani from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sambalpur, Arijit Goswami from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode and Ashish Gupta from International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi.

The winners were awarded CRISIL Young Thought Leader trophy and merit certificate along with an Interview for internship or job at CRISIL and a OnePlus 5 128 GB. View the list of runners-up here.

The business school with a maximum number of winners is presented with the R. Ravimohan Award dedicated to our former MD & CEO, late Mr R. Ravimohan who infused the culture of nurturing young talent in CRISIL. XLRI Jamshedpur with a maximum number of winning candidates had the opportunity to receive this honour in CRISIL Young Thought Leader (CYTL) 2017.
