How to apply for DAAD scholarship?
In order to apply for the DAAD scholarship 2023-2024, you will first need to apply for a course at a German university via the official website and get accepted into it. Many universities accept applications through online portals, however, some might require you to send the hard-copy of the application via post.
NOTE: A candidate doesn't have to apply directly to the university.
The process of application also varies with the course you want to apply in as well as the level of study. You will be eligible to apply for the DAAD scholarship only when you have been accepted for a program under DAAD.
Steps to apply for DAAD scholarship 2023-24
- Access the application form for DAAD Scholarship on the official website and fill it up with the relevant details. Find out in advance the courses at various German universities that come under DAAD scholarship and their respective deadlines.
- You will need the Europas Specimen form to make a hand-signed CV
- Next, you will need a motivation letter, which must also be hand-signed. Make sure that the motivation letter lists all your working experiences as well as the references validating the same.
- Depending on the course/degree you’re applying for, the university may ask for a research proposal. If it does, then you need to attach it with the DAAD application as well.
- A letter of reference from your previous university will also be required to apply for the DAAD scholarship
- It is highly recommended that you attach a professional referral letter from your previous employer as a reference along with the DAAD application form.
- You may also attach a letter of guaranteed employment from your previous employer. Although it’s not mandatory, it will help you to get accepted in the program.
- For further advice and clarification on how to apply, you may contact your local DAAD office.
Language Proficiency Tests
There is no such compulsory language requirement to apply for the DAAD scholarship. It depends on the course you’re applying for, but you don’t need to sit for a language proficiency test to apply.
- In the courses that are taught in English, the candidates may be required to sit for ILETS. The minimum score will vary from university to university.
- German language tests are required only for courses that are taught in German.
- Remember that TOEFL scores are NOT accepted in German universities.
Scholarships: The Why and The How?
Selection Process
Scholarship applications are reviewed by an independent and voluntary selection committee. This may be made up of local and/or German university teachers, researchers and DAAD lecturers. Depending on the scholarship program and the local situation, the best applicants may also be required to introduce themselves personally.
The selection decision is made either by the local selection committee directly or – in the case of a two-stage selection procedure – by another independent committee of academics in Germany. It varies from course to course. However, DAAD staff are not entitled to vote in the scholarship selection procedure.
