According to Alex Ellis, the British High Commissioner to India, what makes the scholarship program diverse is the involvement of scholars from small cities in India, along with the involvement of first-generation students. The good part is that nearly 30 percent of Chevening scholars come from small cities in India.
In the recently held UK-India Week organized by India Global Forum in London, Alex Ellis said "In India's 75th year, this is a great milestone together. Thanks to the exceptional support from our partners in the industry, I am delighted to announce 75 scholarships for Indian students to experience the best of the UK.”
Many Indian students move to the UK for higher studies. As per data, nearly 108,000 study visas were issued to Indian nationals in March 2022, almost double the number compared to the previous year.
