Quantum computing and cloud computing are rapidly emerging technologies that have a wide range of applications. While cloud computing is the delivery of computing services such as servers, databases, networking, storage, software, analytics, etc. over the internet, quantum computing harness the laws of quantum mechanics for solving problems that are too complex for classical computers.
To make students aware of these technologies, IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur are coming up with certification courses in Quantum Computing and Cloud Computing respectively. Here are the details of these courses.
IIT Madras Certification Course on Quantum Computing
The well-structured course has industry support from IBM, Infosys, CQC, Honeywell, Google, Microsoft, Intel, TCS, Righetti, D-Wave, and several other players. The presence of IBM makes this course even more valuable, as IBM is the pioneer in Quantum technologies.
Eligibility
The course is open to students, researchers, and faculty from Computer Science and Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry departments.
Course Structure
The total duration of the course is 4 weeks. The syllabus would be covered in the following manner:
Week 1 |
Introduction and IBM Quantum Perspective, Q Mission in India – Invited talk, Quantum Computing Applications, Quantum Computing Basics |
Week 2 |
IBM Quantum Composer and Quantum Lab using Qiskit |
Week 3
|
Quantum Algorithms-I (Oracles, Deustch Jozsa), Quantum Algorithms-II (Grover's Algorithm with Hands-on) |
Week 4 |
Quantum Error Correction, NISQ era Quantum Algorithms (VQE/QAOA and industrial applications) |
The instructors include an Associate Professor from IIT Madras, a Research Scientist from IBM Research, and a Senior Engineer from IBM systems.
Other Important Details
The course is free of cost but in order to get a certificate, you need to register and take a proctored exam conducted by IIT Madras in person at any of the designated exam centers. The exam fee would be INR 1000 and it would be conducted on 25th September 2022.

IIT Kharagpur Certification Course on Cloud Computing
The online certification course will introduce basic aspects of cloud computing such as its fundamentals, management issues, security challenges, and future research trends to the candidates.
Eligibility
The course is designed to help students at both UG and PG levels, as well as researchers, to use and explore cloud computing platforms. The course is intended for students and researchers from CSE, ECE, and EE branches.
Course Structure
The total duration of the course is 12 weeks. The syllabus would be covered in the following manner:

The course shall be delivered by a Professor from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Kharagpur.

Criteria to get the certificate
- Average assignment score = 25% of the average of the best 3 assignments out of the total 4 assignments given in the course.
- Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100
- Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score
- A candidate will be eligible for a certificate only if the average assignment score is more than or equal to 10/25 and the exam score is more than or equal to 30/74. However, if one of the two criteria is not met, one would not be eligible to get the certificate.
