Different streams didn't stop Team Hyperons BITS Pilani from bagging a spot in the finale of Philips Code to Care Challenge
We were a team of second year undergraduate students from BITS Pilani. All of us came from different branches - Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Physics and Chemical Engineering. However we shared the same passion for computer science and providing solutions to real life problems via our code. That's what brought us together for the Philips Code to Care Challenge.
Back to Basics
10 teams made it to the finale. Considering that teams from all over the country applied and these teams were the best of the best, all of them were equally talented and deserving of the prize. However as far as the competition was concerned, we naturally felt that the teams which had worked on a similar issue as us using a similar model were tougher competitors. We worked on the problem statement for about a month. Not having much experience, we had to first learn about deep learning basics and then analysed various previous implementations of similar ideas and then worked on our own. It was challenging but at the same time very exciting as well and we learned a lot in the process.
We didn't expect the competition to be of such a level. It was a humbling experience to have been selected to the final round of such a competition. Philips had put a lot of effort into organising the event and it was evident by the way the event was conducted.
Some takeaways from the competition
We learnt a lot as a team. Not just academically, wherein we gained experience and knowledge about working on a deep learning project, but also as a team to work together, ideate and proceed to make that idea a reality.
It was a great experience to work with friends on a project and also to reach the national level of Philips Code to Care Challenge. We feel it has brought us closer as friends and we will surely work together on future projects as well.
