DU Updates: Would You Enroll In Courses Like Emotional Intelligence, Art Of Being Happy, Indian Fiction, Etc.?
In a recently held DU academic council meeting, the varsity has decided to begin value-addition courses on topics like emotional intelligence, the art of being happy, and Indian fiction from the 2022-23 academic year.
As part of the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework-2022 (UGCF), there are said to be 24 courses wherein students can take up one or more such value-addition courses per semester. These courses will focus on various components like critical thinking, compassion, Indian knowledge systems, ethical, cultural and constitutional values, creative writing, teamwork, and scientific temperament.
Some of these courses include,
- Art of Being Happy
- Emotional Intelligence
- Financial Literary and Ethics
- Value of Indian Tradition System
- Vedic Mathematics
A value-addition course committee at Delhi University is looking after the execution of these courses, is headed by professor Niranjan Kumar. In daily news by PTI, the professor quoted that these courses are designed to follow the National Education Policy 2022.
What will the newly-launched courses cover?
The courses will include the ones that have been influenced by prominent campaigns that have been started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, such as Swacch Bharat and Fit India.
The course titled "The Art of Being Happy" will be given two credits and will be targeted at learning strategies for coping with stress, the physiological and hormonal basis of happiness, the factors of happiness, and interpersonal relationships that lead to self-actualization.
Students who take the course on "Emotional Intelligence" will develop their personal competence and learn techniques for building emotional intelligence, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. In addition, they will gain insights into the process of creating healthy relationships, which will enhance their social lives.
Another course will familiarise students with "Indian fiction" written in English and teach them how to analyze novels critically while keeping in mind the circumstances of their own lives.
