The University Grants Commission (UGC) has revised its academic calendar for the session 2020-21 and has directed all the varsities to commence the first year classes for both UG and PG courses, from November 1st, 2020. It has also advised them to conclude the admission procedure by November 30th, 2020.
Revised academic calendar
Earlier, the UGC had released its academic calendar, according to which the first-year classes should have begun by September 1st, 2020 and the examinations related to the final year were scheduled between July 1st, 2020 to July 15th, 2020. But owing to the unprecedented situation created by the pandemic, the UGC revised its academic calendar and the conduction of the final year examinations were postponed till the end of September.
However, a delay in the declaration of results in the qualifying examination would lead the varsities in postponing their start of the academic session for the first year undergraduate and postgraduate students from November 1st, 2020 to November 18th, 2020. The Vice-President of UGC also remarked that the varsities can conduct the classes in both online and offline manner, as per the necessity.
Refund updates
In the revised calendar, the commission also mentioned that an entire refund will be made to students in case of cancellation of admissions or migration till November 30th, 2020. After this day till December 31st, 2020, if a student cancels his/her admissions or migrates, he/she will be refunded the entire amount after deducting the processing fees of an amount of INR 1,000.
The commission has also added that the admissions on the basis of merit and entrance for UG and PG students will be completed by the end of the month of October, while the vacant seats will be filled by the end of November.
Provisional admission to begin soon
As far as the provisional admission is considered, the UGC has asked the varsities to begin the process. For the UG and PG courses, the admission process has already been concluded on August 31st this year. The provisional allotment of seats to the students will be conducted until September 30th, 2020.
