Students who have cleared JEE Main 2020 or those who will make through IIT JEE Advanced 2020 will be eligible to register themselves on the official website of the counselling body at josaa.nic.in. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is all set to begin the various rounds of counselling from October 6th, 2020. This will help candidates get admission into the various IITs, NITs, IIITs, IIESTs, and other technical colleges that are funded by the government.

The JEE Main 2020 result has already been out and candidates who made through this can apply for all engineering courses except in IITs. Only those students who will clear JEE Advanced 2020 will be able to secure a place for themselves in the IITs. The JEE Advanced 2020 is scheduled to be held on September 27th, 2020 and the results will be released on October 5th, 2020. The admission process to various institutes and colleges will commence from November 9th, 2020.

Registration to end on October 15th

After the declaration of the results on October 5th, 2020, the JoSAA counselling sessions will commence from the next day, i.e., October 6th, 2020. Similarly, candidates who make through AAT (Architecture Aptitude Test) can submit their individual choices that will begin from October 11th, 2020. The registration process for JoSAA will continue till October 15th, 2020 and the details regarding the allocation of mock seats will be declared on October 12th, 2020.

Six counselling rounds

The JoSAA counselling sessions will continue and the first list regarding the allocation of seats will be released on October 17th, 2020. Candidates who have no further issues and are willing to accept the seats allocated to them will then have to undergo “online reporting.” In this process of online reporting, the document regarding the fee payment will be uploaded and the candidates will then have the chance to ask their queries if any.

There were seven JoSAA counselling sessions last year but because of certain unforeseen situations, the number of rounds has been reduced to six.

Seat allocation process

If the candidates are satisfied with the seat allocation list, they must upload all the essential documents and pay the fees owing to the seat acceptance. No extra time shall be given to the candidates to upload their documents, ask queries, and to verify for their seat acceptance. Candidates can withdraw themselves from the process of seat allocation, once their seats have been confirmed by JoSAA, that will start from the 2nd round and will continue till the 5th round of the process of allocation of seats before the last round, i.e. the 6th round.

An important change

Another important change that comes this year is that the IITs will not give any weightage to the marks secured by candidates in their 12th board examination. This criterion has been dropped. As far as JEE Advanced 2020 is concerned, candidates need to secure at least 75% in their 12th board examination.
