FMS Pass-Out Becomes Meta’s New India Head!

Students of the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi are making their presence felt by the world by becoming leaders of the corporate giants. A new addition to that list is Sandhya Devanathan, a global leader with 22 years of experience and an international career in banking, payments, and technology, who has been appointed as the new India Head of Meta.

On Thursday, the social media giant that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, appointed Sandhya Devanathan as the Vice President of Meta India, shortly after Ajit Mohan stepped down from the position.

She attended Andhra University to complete her B.Tech in Chemical Engineering in 1998, followed by an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi in 2000. To climb up the ladder of success, she did a course in leadership from the University of Oxford. 

In 2016, she joined Meta and contributed to the expansion of the company's operations and personnel in Singapore and Vietnam as well as its Southeast Asian e-commerce projects. 2020 saw Ms. Devanathan leading the business' gaming initiatives in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, one of Meta's biggest global verticals.

Ms. Devanathan is a big supporter of encouraging diversity in the workplace and women in leadership roles, according to her LinkedIn page. She is the worldwide lead for Play Forward, a global Meta program to increase diversity representation in the gaming industry, and the Executive Sponsor for Women@APAC at Meta.

Ms. Devanathan's LinkedIn profile says that she also sits on Pepper Financial Services' global board.

Her new role in the company

The social media behemoth has stated that Sandhya Devanathan would oversee the organization's India charter and deepen strategic ties with the leading brands, creators, advertisers, and partners in the nation to propel Meta's revenue growth across important channels in India.

In her new role, Ms. Devanathan will report to Dan Neary, Vice President of Meta Asia-Pacific.

Leading figures leave Meta

Ajit Mohan, the company's national director, said on November 3 that he was leaving the organization immediately.

Abhijit Bose, the country head for WhatsApp India, and Rajiv Aggarwal, the director of public policy for Meta India, both announced their resignations on November 15.

On the other hand, Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Meta, revealed on November 9 that 11,000 workers, or 13 percent of the workforce, will be let go. Additionally, he stated that recruiting would cease until March 2023.
