FT MBA rankings 2021 released: 5 Indian Colleges among top-100 Global B-Schools
The Financial Times has released its much-awaited annual Global MBA rankings of top B-Schools around the world. FT MBA rankings are formed after considering a bunch of factors like the weighted salary of the students, career progression prospects, value for money offered, overall satisfaction, etc of MBA colleges all around the world. Similar to the year 2020, this year too, the U.S dominated the chart with its 48 B-Schools in the list. INSEAD progressed from 4th rank to 1st this year. Five B-Schools of India including Indian School of Business (ISB), Indian Institute of Management(IIM), Bangalore, Indian Institute of Management(IIM), Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management(IIM), Calcutta, and Indian Institute of Management(IIM), Indore found their spots in the list. While the first four are old rankers, it was the first entry for IIM Indore in the top-100 rankings, at the 94th place.
The race to top between ISB & IIMB continues
Indian School of Business and IIM Bangalore have been participants of FT MBA rankings for a long. Every year, it is an anticipatory event to predict which is going to take first place among Indian B-Schools in the list. While 2019 saw ISB taking the 24th position and IIMB lagging behind at the 33rd place, 2020 saw a growth in IIMB’s ranking. It got a rank of 27 and became the top Indian college on the list, while ISB ended up at 28th place. IIMB fell back again, this year at 35th place, while ISB was ranked 23rd. This was true even after IIMB ranked better than ISB in most of the factors including avg. salary per year today, career progression prospects, value for money, alumni recommendations, and overall satisfaction. ISB bagged the bet with scoring much better in terms of percentage increase in the salary and career service ranking.
ISB & IIM Ahmedabad ranked better in 2021
Indian School of Business, placed the highest among the Indian B-Schools in the list, gained 5 places this year to reach the 23rd spot. IIM Ahmedabad followed suit with its place at the 48th spot from 61st in 2020. In terms of the salary today, IIMA was ranked better with a higher avg. salary. But the percentage increase in the salary was more for the ISB. IIMA had a better rank in terms of career progression prospects which basically is an indicator of the scope of growth of an individual’s career after holding the degree from a specific institution. Even in terms of return on the investment, i.e. value offered for money paid for education by IIMA(52) was higher by 2 points than ISB (54). After including all such factors, ISB gained an overall satisfaction rate of 8.98 to place it higher than IIMA with an overall satisfaction rating of 8.65 measured with the max. limit being 10.
IIM Bangalore & IIM Calcutta slip ranks in the FT MBA rankings
IIM Bangalore retained its position as the top IIM in the FT MBA rankings but fell eight ranks below to reach the 35th spot from 27th in 2020. IIM Calcutta took the third-highest rating among the Indian B-Schools, at the 44th place from 42nd in 2020. IIMB also showed better growth in salary. IIMC on the other hand ranked better in terms of career progression prospects with a rank of 7 as compared to IIMB’s rank of 18. It was also taken to be the better value for money offered with a ranking of 33. After the consolidation of results regarding different factors, IIMB scored much better than ISB, IIMA, and IIMC in the overall satisfaction criteria with a rating of 9.18.
IIM Indore joins the FT MBA rankings
This year, IIM Indore also joined the top100 list of the FT MBA rankings making the total number of Indian B-Schools in the list from four in 2019 and 2020 to five in 2021. It was positioned at 94th place this year. Despite its place, it performed really well in comparison to other Indian B-Schools in terms of certain factors. For example, it secured the highest overall satisfaction rating of 9.23 among them. It was ranked the 4th in the world in terms of career progression prospects it offers, and thus, was the second-best among Indian colleges. It lacked behind in terms of value for money offered, securing 59th place, well below IIMB & IIMC.
