A persistent academic performer, Garima, has once again proved her mettle by consistently outperforming her peers in competitions to secure the 7th rank in D2C Competitive Leaders 2020. She claims that perfection is only a concept, but that shouldn't deter us from chasing the myth!

While I was anticipating to be among Top 30 D2C Competitive Leaders 2020, 7th rank in the list, came to me as a surprise, and what made it more pleasant was its apt timing. Corporate competitions have been an integral and consistent part of my MBA journey. Especially in the 2nd year, there has hardly been any week where I was not involved in brainstorming about any competition. Hearing about this rank, particularly when I was finishing this journey, was the best way I could have summed up the significance of all my efforts in my head.

This award has made my friends, family, and peers proud and ecstatic that I could prove my mettle and emerged victorious when ranked against my peers on a national platform.

Practical implications of B-School learnings

I had heard, time and again, from faculties, seniors and contacts from corporate, how a theoretical classroom set up in a B-School is different from industry reality, and how difficult yet important it is to be able to link both of these. The spirit of competitiveness was essentially ignited by the fact that these opportunities formed a practical set up where I could map the facets of management taught within the boundaries of the classroom, into realistic decisions involving enormous stake and tangible implications. Adding to this, was the opportunity to interact with leaders of most coveted corporations in the country and my peers from B-Schools all over the country.

Learning to beat stringent deadlines

Participating in corporate competitions consecutively, being a voluntary exercise, is a difficult decision in itself, especially amidst the conventions of a B-School, where a student is bound by academic commitments, projects, case studies encompassing stringent deadlines. There have been times when we had submission deadlines of numerous competitions falling on adjacent dates. There have been times where my team had to discuss and devise strategies working remotely, work during the end term examinations, during our family trips, in the middle of travel, during official holidays. However, the extent to which these competitions enhanced my managerial learning by providing adequate parallel exposure to real-time industry-wide business problems, and a platform to evaluate my approach to these problems, made me keep the spirit alive and kept me going at every point.

Competitions offer holistic development

Consistent and sincere participation in corporate competitions can increase your MBA learning multifold. It might appear to be merely solving business cases, but it has the ability to transform your approach through and through. If you want to make the most of your MBA, competitions are clearly one of the few best ways out. Participate in competitions, keep abreast of latest developments and innovation in your domain, and do not leave any opportunity to better yourself.
