Being the National Runners Up of Google Case Study Competition felt surreal. It took time to sink in. Although we knew that we had given our best, yet the moment was so thrilling and unbelievable. It was a special moment when our name was announced and our Google mentor who was an IMT alumnus expressed his pride in us.
We participated in Google Case Study Competition because it’s Google, I mean who wouldn’t. Anything associated with Google is a dream and way too aspirational. Moreover, the problem statement of the case study was highly relatable. Days passed working day and night on the case study. We did a lot of research work on digital marketing. Assistance from faculty and peers helped us till zonals. For the finals, our mentor from Google guided us on how to go ahead.
It was amazing working with the team. Each member had so much to contribute that the only conflict we faced was which ideas to present and which ones to leave out. There were ample ease and openness in the team which helped us sail through the span of 3 months. The diversity of our team was our key strength.
Each one of us hails from different educational backgrounds with different minor specializations in our MBA courses. So, different facets of a single problem were considered and dealt with while proposing the solution to the case study. The way each member countered the proposed solutions and came to a common consensus before finalizing any recommendations can be considered as one of our strengths.
In the finals, there were 6 teams and out of them, XLRI seemed tough competition because they presented their idea uniquely. The recommendations also seemed highly executable. The judges were all the associated department heads who had attained high recognition in their respective fields. Judgement was very transparent and the organization had framed the Google Case Study Competition with utmost practicality.
The experience with the organizers was exceptional. Such cordialness and warmth among top-notch corporates amazed us. Since Google is known for its breakthrough innovations, the judging panel expected simple, executable yet innovative solutions for the problem statements. We had a lot of learnings one of which is that it is absolutely alright to have simple solutions even if the problem seems humongous. What matters the most is the scalability, executability, and impact of your solution. And I think that was the factor that got us the Runners Up title.
