Google launches STEP 2021, an internship programme for computer science students

Google has always been active in enhancing the number of future computer science professionals and tech experts by launching its various Internships and fellowship programmes, online courses and other opportunities. Student Training in Engineering Program (STEP) 2021 is another such internship programme launched by Google. 

About Student Training in Engineering Program (STEP) 2021

Google continues to inspire students in the field of technology and software development. Student Training in Engineering Program (STEP) 2021 is again an initiative by Google that offers an opportunity to work on software projects along with other STEP interns and full-time Google staff. It gives a great chance to gain practical experience and applications of academic concepts.

Eligibility criteria of Student Training in Engineering Program (STEP) 2021

Necessary Qualification 

• Second-year students enrolled in a Bachelor’s program majoring in computer science or any technical field
• Prior knowledge and experience in one or more programming languages

Preferred Qualification 

• Excellent programming skills in languages like - C++, Java, Python.
• Available for a full-time internship (10-12 weeks)
• Must be enrolled in a full-time degree program and should rejoin it after the completion of the internship

Internship details of Student Training in Engineering Program (STEP) 2021

• Software Project

It is a development project that the candidate will work on with a team of Googler staff and other STEP Interns.

• Skills-Based Training

It will help in gaining exposure to new tools and programming languages, therefore, helping in enhancing the coding skills

• Mentorship

Other than your own manager, a Google Engineer will be there to guide you through the project.

• Fun and Interaction 

Along with gaining knowledge and exposure, one gets to develop contacts and engage with industry experts and peers. One gets to engage in various social activities, community building, and networking.

• Professional Development

One gets a chance to gain knowledge by attending ongoing technical talks by senior Googlers. It also helps in getting useful tips to improve your presentation skills, enhance your resume, and approach technical interviews.

• Exposure 

One is exposed to a dynamic working environment and gets to know what professional work-life actually looks like. 

Other details 

1. It is a 10-12 week full-time internship programme and is expected to commence in May/June 2021.
2. Responsibilities assigned to the candidate will vary from project to project.
3. The locations where one will be asked to work are - Bengaluru, Karnataka, Hyderabad, Telangana in India.
