The role that was offered to me was aligned with my career goals. This role offered a perfect platform to implement my academic learnings and cover domains of technology and management and start a career in consulting. Hence, doing an internship at Deloitte Consulting U.S India Pvt. Ltd was the perfect choice for me.

What did I learn during my internship at Deloitte Consulting U.S India Pvt Ltd?

My role during my internship at Deloitte Consulting U.S India Pvt. Ltd was for a functional consultant. My project was research-oriented. Based on my past work experience, the company offered me a project under the same technology. I was supposed to analyze the challenges of an industry and then present how the latest technology like 5G and IoT can help to solve them.

A key skill required right from the beginning was to have a pragmatic and result-oriented approach towards the problem and solution. One must be able to step into the shoes of the stakeholders to understand their challenges clearly. I also had to come up with a solution that was not only feasible but also created an impact in terms of business-level benefits. Chalking out a clear set of the benefit that a customer would receive was the most important skill required. These skills that I acquired here have helped me a lot down the line.

What was the work culture during my internship?

For my internship at Deloitte Consulting U.S India Pvt. Ltd, I had to move to Mumbai. Mumbai is a lively and exciting city. Yes, it is costly but if one is smart enough to identify affordable accommodation facilities, then it is the best place to live. You will find the confluence of all Indian cultures in one city. So, the first time we went to team lunch, we socialized with a lot of senior managers and directors. They shared several challenges faced in their careers and how decisively they handled it. These insights proved to be useful because I had to face similar challenges.

If given an opportunity to work with Deloitte, I will grab it in the blink of an eye. The main reason behind this is the culture that the organization has. The team-based work environment gives opportunities to continuously learn and progress in your career. With smart planning, you can always strike the right balance between your professional and personal life while working in Deloitte. Truly, I can say that my experience here at Deloitte Consulting U.S India Pvt. Ltd surpassed all my expectations and brought out the best version of me!

What did I learn from my mentor during my internship?

My mentor always wanted me to narrow down my scope of the project. Instead of covering too many industries and sectors, it was beneficial to target one subsector and present a holistic solution. Presenting a practical end to end solution was the main objective of my internship. I had a meeting with the SAP Director in Deloitte once. There I was asked multiple questions regarding the career path of a consultant.

He told us that it is imperative to have core competencies like analytical and conceptual thinking to progress well as a consultant. To build these two competencies, one must aspire to have deep industry and business process knowledge through continuous learning and networking. This was one key learning from my internship which I will never forget.
