How an internship at Dentalkart gave me opportunities for growth and learning | Shubham’s story

Dentalkart is one of the best e-commerce sites for dental supplies in India. Its vision is to make India's most reliable and frictionless trade commerce system that makes groundbreaking encounters for purchasers and vendors. Of all the opportunities provided to me, I pursued this internship at Dentalkart because of various reasons. It was in my preferred domain of e-commerce. Also, since it was a startup, I knew I would have great learning opportunities. It would help me in boosting my career and provide me with real on-ground challenges.

Group Discussion

Personal Interview

The first step was a Group Discussion and the topic for the discussion was "Impact of GST on Indian Economy”. This tested our creative thinking and the ability to think of new solutions for various problems. The next step was the interview which asked questions on the value that I would bring to the organization. Thinking quickly and creatively would be good tools if you want to ace this interview.

What did I learn during my internship at Dentalkart?

The initial phase of my internship at Dentalkart required me to do Market research about the e-commerce industry in India and the dental market. After that, I did another market research along with my team. I visited about 80 doctors in and around Delhi. We had to understand the perception of dentists with respect to the e-commerce dental industry. Based on the data collected and secondary data available, we formulated a few strategies and a roadmap for the organization. We also did some data analysis and created trend reports.

Also, I studied Google analytics and suggested a few changes with respect to online marketing. Learning something new was an everyday affair, it seemed. Marketing Analytics, Google analytics, SEO tools and Market research techniques were a few things that I learned here. This helped me grow. It made me interested in fields I never thought I would like.

The experience was quite lively and fun. I had ample opportunities for growth and learning.

What did I learn from my mentor during my internship?

My mentor was what you call an “extraordinarily ordinary” person. She would always give her best effort at whatever she did. The role of my mentor was that of a product specialist. She also worked as a dentist. She provided regular feedback from time to time with respect to the decisions that I took. In addition, she educated me about the product portfolio and also introduced me to other prominent dentists. We also conducted various events in dental colleges. She helped me in chalking out a sound plan for the same. It was due to her support that I was able to learn more and was able to take decisions critical to the growth of the company. She was my pillar of strength throughout my internship at Dentalkart.

Mention some interesting incidents that happened during your internship

There were quite a few incidents that were memorable. A few of them were:

The pizza party at the office which was an ice breaker for all of us. helped me to get to know my peers better.

The shifting of office took place. We moved to our new premise at Chattarpur which was quite exciting as I had to adjust to another lifestyle.

The event day at Sharda University and interaction with their dean provided useful insights.

The interviews that we conducted with dentists was challenging at times. It helped me gain more confidence and develop my leadership skills.
