I started my journey to secure an internship at United Colors of Benetton by getting selected for the Live Project organized by the Benetton Group. The Live Project required a candidate to work in a Retail store for a month and understand the core dynamics of this sector. After its successful completion, the company shortlisted students on the basis of Live Project evaluation followed by Video Interaction Round. I was lucky to be among a few selected students who made it through the United Colors of Benetton’s selection process.
What was my role during my internship?
I was offered the role of Retail Business Trainee during my internship at the United Colors of Benetton. The extent of my role at the United Colors of Benetton allowed me to push my limits and redefine my boundaries. This role was dynamic in the sense that I got a taste of core ethics of the Retail Sector. I geared up every day to embrace a new challenge and learn from different experiences. Overall, my internship at the United Colors of Benetton was a rewarding experience.
What did I learn during my internship?
My internship at the United Colors of Benetton was a unique learning opportunity and I exploited it to the best of my abilities. I imbibed the art of making minute observations and reaching conclusions in a constructive manner. Apart from that, my communication prowess has also increased manifold. Working in a team allowed me to understand the crux of Team Management. This is inevitable for any budding Marketing Professional. Thus, my internship at the United Colors of Benetton was laden with learnings and summing it up in one paragraph would be quite unfair.
What is the work culture at the United Colors of Benetton?
Fortunately, I did not have to leave the comfort of my home to pursue my internship. It was an exhilarating experience to work with people from my place after having one year of MBA experience from a different city. Due to the time constraints, the company was unable to organize any official team outing. But interacting with my fellow teammates and Senior Management was always an enlightening experience. We exchanged stories, we shared experiences and brainstormed ideas in a totally informal environment. This always kept me at ease during my internship.
Given a chance, I would grab the opportunity to work with the United Colors of Benetton without a second thought. Retail is an interesting sector. Working with the United Colors of Benetton would allow me to delve into the intricacies of this sector. Moreover, I would like to do a deep brand study of the company and sector. This can happen only when I become a part of this reputed organization.
What did I learn from my mentor during the course of my internship?
I will forever be indebted to my mentor. He made my internship at United Colors of Benetton less rigorous and more enjoyable. He always stressed the importance of being completely responsible and accountable for the work I do. Also, he emphasized on striving continuously to reach efficient outcomes. This process might include groundwork and out-of-the-guidelines struggle. But that should not be an excuse to deliver inefficient results. Last but not least, working with the right spirit is the only way to reach your final goal.
One of the unforgettable experiences that I can recollect was when I was involved in the Retail Merchandising of manicures in the store. It was a fun experience where I had to give innovative solutions in accordance with the theme decided by the company.
To sum up, my internship at the United Colors of Benetton turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. I would have seriously regretted if I did not go ahead with my instinct to do an internship with this reputed brand. I was spellbound by United Colors of Benetton’s work culture and employee-friendly policies. My internship at the United Colors of Benetton was an informative, enjoyable and memorable experience.
