How To Wake Up Early And Work On Your Dreams With The 50/30/10/10 Rule
Do you have an irregular sleeping pattern? Are you snoozing through the morning? Snoozing through your life? Or snoozing your potential away? If your answer to any of these questions is a yes, then consider this your wake-up call. The 50/30/10/10 rule that we are going to share here will help you tackle the day before it starts tackling you and make all your dreams come true. Not sure how waking up early can do that? Carefully read the quote that follows.
‘Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise’. This quote by Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of America, is ripe with advice. The single statement stresses how sleeping and waking up early, can help you excel in all aspects of your life. Those who wake up early and follow a fixed sleeping schedule have reduced stress levels. Such a schedule also improves mental health and gives them an energy and mood boost.
But the most important benefit of waking up early is- Increased Productivity. It's true, consider a simple situation as an example. A student who has an exam the next day plans to wake up early for a revision and to make final preparations before sitting for the exam. You must all agree that this approach does have its merits. So why not apply it in life as a general principle of living?
Now, we know that the merits of waking up early far outway its demerits, but how can one follow through with such a schedule? Because most of us who want to wake up early end up giving up on the idea since it is very difficult to make it work. This is where the 50/30/10/10 rule comes into play. The rule is developed by productivity blogger Jason Gutierrez, who shares how to make your dreams come true by waking up early at 5:30 AM and following a schedule. Check it out.
The 50 Of 50/30/10/10 Is Determination!
For the majority, 5:30 AM is far from the normal wake-up time. But according to Jason, you must wake up at that hour if you want to be unstoppable and achieve all that you want in life. He says that 50% of the effort that goes into waking up early as per this rule comes from being determined.
So set your alarm clock now! If you are looking for ways to motivate yourself, then identify what you want to achieve in life. This fuels your determination to accomplish tasks. Your goal could be as simple as a fitness target, a spiritual goal, or even acquiring a skill. You can also set multiple goals, with one primary and other parallel goals. These can be bigger motivators to beat your alarm to the punch.
Once you are determined to wake up early and work on yourself, half the battle is already won.
The 30 Of 50/30/10/10 Wake Up Rule Is Preparation
They say proper preparation prevents poor performance, and this is what Jason wants to indue in this stage. You must prepare to implement what you are determined to achieve. For example, what are you going to do when you wake up early? You surely don’t want to waste those golden hours making a plan. So, make a plan beforehand, here are some pointers to keep in mind when prepping for the morning ahead:
1. Early to bed!
The only way to sustain an early wake-up time is to go to bed at the right time. Figure out how many hours of sleep you require, be it 6 hours or 8, and set a sleep time accordingly.
2. Need to unwind?
Most of us don’t get to sleep the moment our head hits the pillow. That is because our body takes time to receive the signal that it's time to sleep. So make sure that you start unwinding an hour before you need to sleep so that your body has enough time to relax and you sleep comfortably. Also, most of us are habitual of scrolling through social media or playing a game or two right before we go to sleep. Now, these habits disrupt sleep and must be avoided at least one hour before your bedtime.
3. Plan ahead
Think about this- you sleep on time, and then wake up early the next morning, but still struggle to be productive. That’s a downer, isn’t it? But this happens when we don’t have a plan to follow after waking up. Many of us habitually check social media the first thing in the morning, while some procrastinate about the day ahead, losing precious currency- time!
The only way to avoid these traps is to plan your mornings a day before, so you know what to do when, and don’t waste any time or energy on random things.
4. Caffeine after 2 PM? No!
Countless studies conclude that taking caffeine six-eight hours before bedtime significantly reduces the quality and quantity of sleep. For this reason, Gutierrez recommends no coffee after 2 PM.
5. Exercise
You must have heard that those who exercise regularly, sleep better and on a consistent basis. The connection is- they tire their body out during the day and as night falls, their bodies naturally need sleep to recuperate. Do the same, and you’ll see instant results.
Now if you follow through these two initial stages, 80% of your path to success is already covered. Let’s move on to the remaining 20% which is just as crucial.
The 10% Execution Factor
Most of us enjoy making plans, but what about execution? After all, what good is a plan when it is not taken to fruition? So, executing your plans properly is the next stage to achieving full potential. Follow the plan you’ve made for your morning to a tee. Refrain from checking out your social media as it often causes distractions. Also if you have trouble getting out of bed, try placing the alarm clock away from the bed. This will force you to leap out of bed.
Last But Not The Least 10% Luck
There will always be things that are out of our control, but you can still create some sort of accountability to turn things go your way. Haven’t you heard, that luck always seems to be against the person who depends on it.
So make your own luck by taking initiative. Maybe find a friend(s) who might want to wake up early for motivation and accountability. Find hope in life for it is the secret ingredient in your journey to success.
