The Indian Forest Service (IFS or IFoS) is one of the three most prestigious civil services of the GOI, with IAS and IPS being the other two. The IFS was established in 1966 under the All India Services Act of 1951. The aim is to protect and ensure sustainable management of natural resources to further ensure the ecological stability of the nation. As per the IFS recruitment 2023 notification issued by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), there are 150 job openings in the department.
The administration of the Forest Services comes under the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. The entity is inviting all graduates to apply for the examination, and all the details for the same are mentioned in the article ahead.
IFS Recruitment 2023: Details
The members of the IFS manage tiger reserves, national parks, sanctuaries, and other protected areas in addition to the natural resources. Getting into the IFS is a great honor for those who achieve this feat. There are multiple positions in a state forest department like Conservators of Forests, Divisional/District Forest Officers (DFO), Chief Conservators, etc.

- Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination for selection of candidates for the IFS (Main) examination.
- IFS (Main) examination for selection to the Indian Forest Services.
Every eligible candidate will be permitted six attempts at the examination, with rebates and exemptions for special categories.

How to Apply for IFS Recruitment 2023
The only way to apply for the IFS recruitment 2023 is through online application submission. The details of the application process are as follows:
- Register on the official one-time-registration platform. Those who are already registered can skip this step.
- Fill out the online application form for examination on the portal.
- You can make a change in the application but only once, the window for which will remain open for 7 days.
- A fee of INR 100 must be paid by applicants either by depositing cash in any SBI branch or by using the net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit card.
- Female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates are exempted from payment of the fee.
- Candidates must pring the system-generated Pay-inslip if they opt for “Pay by Cash” mode. Note that the mode will be deactivated at 23:59 hrs on 20 February 2023, so generate the slip before that.
