IIM Bangalore launched a platform for Investor Education with NSE
In recent news, the Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management (CCMRM) at IIM Bangalore launched a platform for Investor Education (PIE), with NSE’s Investor Protection Fund Trust (NSE IPFT). NSE stated that the PIE imparts investor education in simple, easy to understand video, audio, and other digital media formats.
The platform aims to enhance financial literacy and education of its students, amidst the increasing number of corporate failures, risk of employment losses, and limited government pension systems. The PIE is a step towards empowering business students to adapt in the changing economic environment.
Significance of the PIE
The reason why IIM Bangalore launched a Platform for Investor Education with the help of the NSE is that first, it is user friendly. The content on this platform is available on-demand, allowing anyone to simply access it as per their convenience. Moreover, it is easy to navigate and is available in multiple languages, consequently opening it up to a larger audience.
Along with being free and product-neutral, PIE offers a spectrum of experienced investors who provide pivotal information and advice to first-time investors. The platform also provides four learning modules, each comprising videos, podcasts, deep-dives and blog posts with a separate section for discussion. Animation and data visualization technology is used to actively engage different cohorts of potential investors.
Those who are interested in refining their financial literacy should visit the PIE’s official website, which includes interactive blogs, learning modules, asset classes and videos.
A timely initiative
The Investor Education platform launched by IIM Bangalore comes as a timely initiative. This is because it addresses the need for investors to make informed decisions in a time of uncertainty and expected market volatility, according to IIM Bangalore’s director. It will also improve investor education, especially since the number of influential retail investors in India is increasing day by day, making investing an important skill to learn.
The director of IIM Bangalore thanked NSE for providing the institution with such an opportunity to work on a timely initiative like PIE. It is believed that the Platform for Investor Education will benefit from the innovative research initiatives by the faculty at IIM Bangalore, and will, therefore, reflect the current developments in financial markets. It will certainly work as an enabler for investors.
Technology-driven innovation
Addressing the virtual gathering of students, faculty and alumni of IIM Bangalore, when the Investor Education platform launched, NSE Managing Director and CEO Vikram Limaye said an increasing number of retail investors rely on technology-driven innovations. Such innovations have contributed to India’s economic growth story, in his opinion, and will be facilitated through the PIE.
These innovations include enhanced availability of information on digital media and growing awareness among people about newer financial asset classes. Such necessary technology-driven innovations will only come about with the help of the PIE, especially during times of COVID-19. This helps explain why IIM Bangalore launch Platform for Investor Education as a technology-driven innovation.
In the last few months itself, more than three lakh people joined the PIE as new investors by leveraging on technology, thus getting connected to capital market investments. If you too want to improve your financial literacy, then participate in the platform to make such crucial changes in yourself!
