IIRS adds free online course on agricultural water management under its outreach program
The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), under ISRO, has opened up a number of courses under its outreach program. The latest addition to the list has been a course on Agricultural Water Management. The IIRS outreach program has been a long-standing initiative to bring the experience and expertise of ISRO employees to young minds.
Students interested in joining this course can visit the IIRS website elearning.iirs.gov.in and make a choice of the course they wish to study. Basic details have to be filled as per instructed by the form, along with identity proof. IIRS then sends activation links, which the applicants have to use to activate the account so that the application can be sent in for the selection process.
Selected candidates will be able to attend the classes on the eLearning portal with login credentials provided by IIRS. They will achieve a certificate at the completion of the online examination at the end of the course.
Students who are not selected (owing to limited seats) can still attend the classes on YouTube live but will be unable to get the certificate.
About the course
The duration of the course will be 5 days. It will focus on the application of remote sensing in agricultural water management. It is scheduled to begin on August 3. Agriculture comprises a very large part of the primary sector in our country. Water scarcity is a major challenge that agriculture faces. Despite having a monsoon type climate, droughts and crop failure due to water scarcity are a common occurrence in India.
Remote sensing will enable the use of earth observation satellites in the monitoring of crop information. This will help in making an informed decision about water management. This course aims to make the participants aware of this ability of RS. The course is completely free of cost, making study material available on the e-class portal.
Eligibility
All students in the final year of graduation and in any year of postgraduation can apply for the course. The course is also open to the staff (technical/scientific) of central and state government universities.
All applications must be sponsored by their respective universities/institutes. Since the seats in the course are limited, the registration will be approved on a first-cum-first-serve basis. You can directly register for the course here. If you want to explore other free courses offered by the premier space research organization you can visit the e-learning portal.
