3 Hostellers From IIT Gandhinagar Get Identical Marks In CAT, Make Their Way Into IIM Calcutta!
If you find it difficult to walk alone, walk with the group that takes you to your destination.
We've all heard stories of the amazing things that can be accomplished via group learning. Students from IIT Gandhinagar who studied together to succeed in the competitive admissions test CAT have shown this to be true once again. Not only did they study together, but also obtained identical marks.
The trio of Harshit Kumar, Viraj Shah and Dhanesh Bhutada, pursuing B.Tech at IIT Gandhinagar, together cracked CAT 2021, the doorway to India’s prestigious IIMs, with each scoring 99.99 percentile! The three are currently studying at IIM Calcutta.
CAT 2021 Preparation Strategy
Harshit Kumar, Viraj Shah, and Dhanesh Bhutada began to prepare for CAT 2021 approximately 6 months before the exam and used to benchmark against one another. They used to share their notes and solve complex questions consistently during their preparation phase. Here are some fool-proof tips by Kumar, Shah, and Bhutada that may prove to be helpful for you:
- Mock test: Giving tests is very essential if you want to prepare well for the actual CAT exam. Many coaching institutes in India provide well-rounded mock tests. A set of 30 to 40 mocks would be more than sufficient to gauge the level and the type of questions that anyone can expect in the exam.
- Complex Question Discussion: You need to discuss the difficult questions and find more appropriate approaches to the questions that save time.
- Time Management: CAT is all about time management. You need to attempt the maximum number of questions correctly in the minimum possible time if you want to stay ahead of your competitors. A constant watch should be kept on time and if a question seems unsolvable one should let go of the question and try to attempt other questions.
- Question Selection Skills: In an exam like CAT some of the questions are deliberately kept in the middle which will take more time to solve. Sections of Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning-Data Interpretation are filled with such questions. So, it is of utmost importance that you select the right set of questions when you attempt the paper and the same should be adopted while giving mocks.
- Speed: Speed is of the essence in exams like CAT. Unlike other management exams like XAT and IIFT there is sectional timing in CAT. This means the 3 sections of the paper have time allotted for them after which you cannot attempt that section. So, it becomes necessary for whichever section you attempt with speed so that you are able to skim through the section and attempt all the questions which you know at the right time.
So move away from the 'friends don't let me study' excuse! If you are a hosteller who wants to crack CAT with flying colors, this trio can be your source of inspiration.
