YES BANK Transformation Series 2018 National Finalist Shubham Goyal's Story
I felt enraptured and relieved when we got to know about being the National Finalists, that my team's hard work and dedication finally paid off and we fared well in YES BANK Transformation Series 2018. The sole reason for participating in this competition was that it was one of India’s largest and most prestigious case study competitions and it was a great opportunity to learn by participating in it.
We were focussed on relevant primary and secondary research to collect relevant information. The competition comprised of phases and we devoted approximately 1-2 weeks for each phase. The most challenging part was when in the final round, we did primary research through convenience sampling to identify problems and propose cost-efficient, yet feasible solutions.
I was privileged to have my best friends, Ashish and Shantanu as teammates with whom my ideas and thoughts resonated extremely well. But like every other team, we did have conflicts which we tried resolving through a mutual consensus. For me, working with my teammates and rehearsing our presentation to fit the stipulated time was the most fun part.
I think detailed domain knowledge of different and disjoint domains was our team’s biggest forte. We as a team of three, collectively, had an in-depth understanding of information systems, finance, marketing, and other managerial domains. Ashish is a EEE Engineer from IIT Indore and displayed proficiency in public policy framing. Shantanu being a Chartered Accountant from ICAI delved into the financial nuances of our presentation. Finally, I was responsible for the information systems related research and recommendations.
15 teams made it to the finale of Yes Bank Transformation Series 2018. I consider the team from IIM Bangalore to be our toughest competitor owing to their exhaustive recommendation list and commendable presentation. I believe the competition was outstanding in terms of judgement quality, organization, and framing. The problem statements were relevant and challenging, prompt help was available and the judges provided valuable feedback.
Apart from the technical knowledge that we garnered through our research, one learning that I would emphasize based on the experience of my group is to never give up hope and keep working hard till the end: "It’s never over, till it’s over". All in all, I had a great experience and I expect the organizers to maintain and further improve the quality, relevance, and efficiency of the entire process.
