The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) is inviting applications for research fellows from postgraduates in M.Sc, M.Tech, and Engineering. As per the notification for the IITM Recruitment 2023, even candidates with no work experience can apply for the fellowship.

Please note: Last date to apply is June 26, 2023.

IITM is an autonomous research organization under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES). IITM aims to become a center of excellence in the research of weather, climate science, and oceanic sciences.

The MoES was formerly known as the Department of Ocean Development. Since its inception in 1981, it's working to provide services for weather, climate, ocean and coastal state, hydrology, seismology, and natural hazards, as well as sustainably exploring and harnessing the country’s marine living and non-living resources.

Apart from IITM, the MoES is also inviting applications for the Junior Research Fellow Program (MRFP). MRFP is a dedicated research fellowship program by the MoES.

Both IITM and MoES are collectively inviting applications for 25 research fellows. Here are the vacancies shared under the MoES and IITM Recruitment 2023 notifications:

The fellowship is open only to Indian nationals. Here’s a look at the eligibility criteria detailed in the IITM Recruitment 2023 notification:

Research Fellows (IITM)

Post Graduate degree in Physical Sciences [includes Physics, Applied Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Oceanography, Climate Science, Geophysics with Meteorology as one of the subject/ Environmental Sciences/ Electronics or equivalent subjects] / Chemical Sciences [includes Chemistry/ Physical Chemistry/ Inorganic Chemistry/ Organic Chemistry or equivalent subjects]/ Mathematical Sciences [includes Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics/ statistics or equivalent subjects] with at least 55% marks for General and OBC Category (50% for SC, ST, and PwBD).

M. Tech. in Atmospheric/ Oceanic Sciences or equivalent subject with at least 55% marks for General and OBC Category.

Master’s degree from any branch of Engineering with at least 55% marks for General and OBC Category.

The candidates should have qualified in one of the following national-level examinations:-

i) CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship / Assistant Professorship) / GATE / JEST

ii) National-level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc

Junior Research Fellow (MoES)

M.Sc or M.Tech in a related discipline** OR Post Graduate degree in Physical Sciences/ Mathematical Sciences with at least 55% marks for General and OBC Category.

Candidate should have qualified NET/GATE/LS (CSIR/UGC/ICAR)

Relaxation:

Age:

SC, ST, Women, Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): 05 years relaxation in upper age limit
OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates: 03 years relaxation in upper age limit

Educational Qualification:

Qualifying marks are 50% for SC, ST, and PwBD candidates

IITM Recruitment 2023: Selection Process

As per the IITM Recruitment 2023 notification, the selection process only includes an interview for shortlisted candidates.

A screening committee will screen all applications and shortlist candidates for the interview. Shortlisted candidates will receive information about the interview via email.

In case a large number of applications are received, IITM may conduct a written test to shortlist candidates for the interview.

Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of INR 31,000 along with admissible HRA (House Rental Allowance). The candidates will be hired for a period of four years.

The applications for the vacancies opened on May 12. The last date to apply is June 26, 2023.

Candidates need to submit a photograph and supporting documents at the time of application.
After completing the online application form, candidates will receive an online application ID. Candidates are expected to preserve the application ID for future correspondence.
