Important chapters and topics for JEE Main 2021 with their weightage and distribution

Being among the top scorers of the JEE Mains exam is every engineering aspirant's dream. But with a huge JEE Main syllabus, many students find it difficult to cover each topic from the three subjects. This year, four sessions of JEE Main 2021 will be conducted in the months of February, March, April and May. So, we have prepared a list of important chapters and topics for the JEE Main 2021 exam that will help candidates tackle the exam with a better strategy.

The candidates should also know the topic-wise weightage of each chapter so that they can prioritize the topics. The JEE Main 2021 syllabus covers the whole Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics of classes 11th and 12th. Therefore, the best way to plan for JEE Main 2021 is to begin with the significant subjects.

  • Candidates must get familiar with various units associated with physical quantities.
  • Compile a list of all units where there is a possibility for you to get confused.
  • Candidates must ensure that wherever needed, they should have a strong command on 'Vector treatment'.
  • As per the experts, applicants should also consider their limits along with any regular formula. For instance, kinematics equations are for uniform acceleration only.

Chemistry topics are primarily split into three parts: physical, organic, and inorganic chemistry

Physical Chemistry

Candidates are recommended to keep a diary of basic formulae relevant to chapters such as atomic structure, solid-state, ionic equilibrium, electrochemistry, and thermochemistry for quick revision. Also, keep in mind the exceptions as they are the major aspects of chemistry. Keep in mind the values of log 2 (0.3010) and log 3 (0.4771) as they are required in many questions.

Organic Chemistry

Candidates should be more inclined towards mechanisms and reactions. Important reactions like Ozonolysis, Aldol, Cannizzaro, Perkin, and Hoffmann’s should be understood very clearly and questions related to them should be practiced regularly. Special attention should be on GOC (General Organic Chemistry). You should be good at comparing the stability of reaction intermediates and questions related to acidity and basicity. Isomerism and Organic compounds containing Oxygen should be studied thoroughly. Don’t forget the tests of the various functional groups.

Inorganic chemistry

A notebook should be maintained to take note of trivial facts relating to the formula of ores and alloy composition that often occur in objective studies. In addition to this, the emphasis should be on sections such as chemical bonding, p-block elements, and coordination chemistry from where the majority of questions are asked.

For maths, keep a notebook with all formulae so that you can memorize them. It helps in last minute revision too.

Important points from different topics:

Coordinate Geometry

Go through the formulae with an emphasis on trying to pick parallels between them, which during the analysis will assist in recalling. Do not ignore geometrical properties especially for straight lines and circles.

Trigonometry

Divide the topic into four parts: basic formulae, trigonometric equations, inverse and solution of triangles.

Algebra

For Quadratic or Theory of equations, be clear about how the symmetric sums of roots occur in an equation as well as the transformation of equations. Binomial, Permutation and Combination, and Probability are all connected and should be studied together.

Calculus

Candidates should focus on the standard limits, differentiation formulae, and standard integration results. Revise the theoretical requirements for Continuity and Differentiability as well as the properties of Definite Integration.

Vector and 3-D Geometry

Revise them together as they are related. The questions in this section are likely to involve standard formulae.

FAQs for JEE Main 2021

Question 1: For JEE Mains, which chapters can I skip?

Answer 1: One should try to cover the whole syllabus in examinations like JEE Main and should not miss any subject. Studying all topics is critical.

Question 2: For JEE, is NCERT enough?

Answer 2: The bottom line is that JEE Mains NCERT books are among the best books, but they are not enough because they do not have a study of complex JEE topics. You can understand the basics needed to tackle advanced-level issues in JEE with the help of NCERT books.

Question 3: Which is better: HC Verma or DC Pandey?

Answer 3: For JEE planning, both books are used. So, the question indicates which book is easier to crack JEE. Though DC Pandey is more troublesome, HC Verma is more of a conceptual book.

Question 4: For JEE, is the Class XI syllabus important?

Answer 4: The Class XI syllabus in JEE Main acts as a solid-base and the Class XII syllabus lets you crack the JEE Main. Both classes are necessary and you need to prepare well for the JEE Key Examination.

Question 5: Which is the most scoring subject in JEE mains?

Answer 5: Chemistry lets you score well with more than 35 marks as the average score; Mathematics, on the other hand, is the hardest to score with a little over 25 marks as the average score.

Question 6: How many hours do IIT toppers study?

Answer 6: To prepare adequately for JEE, most experts recommend that students must study for at least six hours a day or 42 hours a week or so (excluding the time they spend in coaching classes).
