To train the students in compliance with the needs of the railway infrastructure, the government has announced seven Indian Railways courses for MBA, B.Tech and MSc students. Their aim is to train and equip the students in Systems & Communication Engineering, Railway Infrastructure Management and Transportation cum Supply Chain Management. 

These seven Indian Railways courses are under National Rail & Transportation Institute (NRTI) which include:

  • Two courses in B. Tech UG Programmes
  • Two courses in MBA 
  • Three courses in MSc. Programmes

“NRTI has adopted an interdisciplinary approach for research of transport systems – it is bringing together academicians, scientists and engineers from various backgrounds, and plans to leverage its academic and industry partnerships and collaborations.”, said Mr. VK Yadav, Chairman and CEO, Railway Board.

Courses in B.Tech 

The two courses in B.Tech focusses on Rail Systems and Communications Engineering and Rail Infrastructure. The candidates must have done their 10+2 with Physics, Maths and Chemistry to be eligible for the courses in B.Tech.

Courses in MBA 

The key area of focus of the courses in MBA is Transportation and Supply Chain Management. The eligibility for courses in MBA is graduation along with the age bar of 25 years.

Courses in MSc. Programmes

The courses in MSc. programmes are concerned about the core sectors of the nation like Systems Engineering and Integration, Systems and Analytics, Policy and Economics. The eligibility for courses in MSc. is graduation along with the age bar of 25 years.

There are provisions for reservations as well as per the government mandates:

  • General+EWS: 50.5%
  • OBC: 27%
  • SC: 15%
  • ST: 7.5%

Admission process

Candidates need to clear the NRTI-AAT, which is conducted once a year in the month of June to get admission into NRTI. 

As per the chairman VK Yadav “It will serve as an experiential learning laboratory for the student community as well as the faculty development initiatives, thereby creating a distinct character for the University through a highly experiential and application-based learning approach.”
