Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched three online courses for free. Undergraduate and postgraduate students can apply for it and register themselves online. The three online courses are Geographical Information System, Geoweb services, and Geocomputation. Each course will run through a time duration of seven to twelve days. Aspiring candidates can enroll themselves, as per their interest and need, in either one or all of the courses.
Course highlights
- Geographical Information System
This course is moulded in such a way that the students can easily be taught about concepts such as geographic phenomena with the help of diverse examples. The course on Geographical Information System is spread over four weeks that commenced on September 28th, 2020, and will end on October 15th, 2020.
The crux of the course lies in concepts such as Spatial Analysis, Data Inputting, Geographic Information System, and Introductory Concepts and Overview.
- Remote Sensing and GIS Applications
The course is crafted keeping in consideration that students can quickly grasp and be able to learn applications related to concepts of remote sensing, GIS applications for crop resource assessment, and remote sensing applications for geological studies. The course will start on November 2nd, 2020, and will end on November 20th, 2020.
- Basics of Geocomputation and Geoweb Services
The third free online course will give the participants a sneak-peek into Geocomputation. Spread over a time of two weeks, the course will run from October 19th, 2020 till October 29th, 2020. The essential topics that would be covered in this course are ISRO Geoweb services, Geocomputation technology and applications, Geoweb services and repositories, Introduction to Online GIS, Programming concepts for Geocomputation, and Introduction to Python and R.
Perks and benefits
After the successful completion of the course, the participants will receive a certificate from ISRO. The minimum criteria to achieve that is a 70% attendance and acquiring at least 40% marks in the online examination. Via the e-class platforms of IIRS, the participants will get easy access to study materials such as demonstrations, lecture slides, etc.
