The Inland Waterways Authority of India, IWAI, is an integral part of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW). It is a statutory body under the MoPSW, GOI, and was set up back in 1986. Since then, the entity has been responsible for maintaining, developing as well as regulating the inland waterways of the nation for navigation and shipping purposes. Its headquarters are located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with multiple regional offices spread pan India. With the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) Internship Scheme 2023-24, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways is inviting talented and curious undergrad, postgraduate students, and research scholars across domains to join them.

IWAI Internship Scheme 2023-24: Details

The internship covers a wide variety of domains, and applicants will be selected to work in a specific area based on their application and preferences stated. The various areas of the program include (but are not limited to):

Vessels Operations

Finance

Administration

Information Technology relates to water transport

River Cruises & related affairs

Navigation & Vessel Traffic Management Systems

Traffic and Cargo Handling

Fairway Development

Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route

Hydrography

Capacity Building

Terminal Planning and Operations

Legal

Human Resources

River Information Systems

Some other important points to note about the IWAI internship scheme 2023-24 are:

  • The maximum number of students that can be selected to train under this internship program is- 10 Undergraduate and 15 Postgraduate students/ Research scholars.
  • The duration of the internship will be a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 6 months. 
  • A certificate of completion will be issued to only those interns who complete the requisite period as stipulated in their offer.
  • The stipend paid would be as follows:

Inland Waterways Authority of India Internship Scheme 2023: Eligibility

The primary eligibility criteria for the IWAI Internship 2023 are:

  • Candidate must be pursuing or have completed a Graduate/PG degree from a recognized university (national as well international).
  • Graduates must have a score of at least 75% in the 12th standard
  • PG students must have obtained 60% marks in graduation.
  • Research scholars must have scored a minimum of 60% marks in a PG degree.

IWAI Internship Scheme 2023: Application Process

To apply for the Inland Waterways Authority of India Internship, interested candidates must:

  1. Fill in the application forms as prescribed in Annexure-A of the official bulletin
  2. They must also enclose their CVs (in the prescribed format) along with the application.

  4. Alternatively, interested applicants can also apply online. Read the official bulletin for more information on this.

Note: The internship is open year-round, and the official deadline for application is 31 December 2023. However, given the cap on the number of interns, the authority will select in a year, it is best to apply as soon as possible
