Being in the top 3 teams across the top-most business schools was in itself a feat And for that we had patted ourselves. Not to mention the tireless efforts the team had put in. From juggling between college and researches to the presentation and editing. Everything culminating into us reaching the top. Ultimately, the title of the 1st Runners Up of Johnson & Johnson Quest 2018 was ours.
One major factor that tempted us to participate in Johnson & Johnson Quest 2018 was ‘Uniqueness’. This competition, unlike others, did not stick to the pattern of judging based on the solution to a case study or a business problem. Rather, it had a judgment that spanned across different stages over close to 6 months.
From initial solution drafts, then the corporate project under a senior leadership, it finally led to the final showdown. This format, by an FMCG as big as J&J, yielded J&J Quest 2018 the numero uno position for us. Every stage of J&J Quest 2018 was a battle and we worked extremely hard to strengthen our armor. We treated every stage with equal weightage.
Gunisha, Sidhanth, Aishvarye, and I, come from diverse backgrounds. Also, we were pursuing different streams in our Masters. This used to bring in different perspectives to situations and hence, created an utmost enriching experience overall. After college, we used to assemble at a common spot to brainstorm and formulate our pedagogy and timelines. Also, while the team used to juggle, sometimes the situation would get really excited. Gunisha was always the anchor to mellow the rage and get us all sorted.
The finals of Johnson & Johnson Quest 2018 saw 3 teams from colleges: ISB Hyderabad, NMIMS Mumbai, and GIM Goa. Each team was fiercely prepared to showcase their solutions while also answering the Q&As by the 8 members senior leadership jury. Every team was acing their turn and posing as a threat to the other two.
I can only say one word for the whole competition: Excellent! From an organization as big as Johnson and Johnson, who would expect less and they nailed all our expectations to the tee. The experience, nurturing from the mentors provided, consideration of our college schedules, correcting our mistakes while also keeping us in check and recognizing our efforts at all levels, re-established the long stature of the organization and made us respect the CREDO they stood for.
We learnt about the pharmaceutical industry and how to multitask different tasks. We learnt team working and realized the importance of corporate connections. From exploratory research to field visits, we did not leave any stone unturned to learn.
As per the competition rules, only the members of the winning team were to be awarded PPI offers. But after the presentations, the judges announced special PPI offers to 2 of the 4 members in our team, namely to Sidhanth Kapur and myself. It came as a big surprise and a cherry on the cake for the team and our college.
