L&T OutThink 2017 - Case Study Challenge

Larsen & Toubro Limited, commonly known as L&T, is the largest Indian multinational firm headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was founded by two Danish engineers taking refuge in India. The company has business interests in engineering, construction, manufacturing goods, information technology, and financial services, and has offices worldwide. Has earned a revenue of US$16 billion in 2017.

L&T organizes various student engagement initiatives to provide an experience to the students on how it is to work for a brand like L&T which is spread across so many sectors and industries?

L&T OutThink 2017 was launched on 5th Sep’ 17 and it was open to students in 34 different campus. Some of the campuses are-

1. IIM Ahmedabad
2. IIM Bangalore
3. IIM Calcutta
4. IIM Lucknow
5. IIM Kozhikode
6. IIM Indore
7. IIM Shillong

View the complete list of participating campuses here. Students were to form teams with exact 3 members to register for the case study challenge.

The challenge was divided into various rounds which are as follows:

In the First Round, teams were asked to download the case study and submit their analysis by September 30, 2017. Submitted entries were evaluated by a panel decided by L&T.

The solution to the case as  given by the participants were judged on the following criteria:

• Case analysis

• Application of data

• Implementation feasibility of the recommendation/proposed solution

• Quality of presentation

One team per campus was selected to participate in the next round of the challenge. View the details of the competition here.

In the Second Round, all the 34 teams (1 team per campus) participated in this round where they received additional information pertaining to the case that they had solved previously. The students were asked to submit an analysis based on the additional information given in this round. Post evaluation, top 8 teams were shortlisted to compete in the final round.

Top 8-teams were invited to present their case solutions in the Third Round to the panel of a jury of L&T followed by a Q&A session in Mumbai on November 10, 2017. Teams were given the privilege to make any alterations to their presentations for the final round. View the list of the 8 participating teams here.

Winners and Awards

Team Southern Wizards from IIM Trichy grabbed the first position followed by team Komerades from IIM Kozhikode as the 1st Runner-up and team Strategio from IIM Ahmedabad was declared as the 2nd Runner-up.

The winner was awarded INR 1,00,000 and a sum of INR 50,000 and INR 25,000 was awarded to first and second runner-up teams respectively
