SPJIMR Climbs Marico Over The Wall S10 To Sweep Winner Trophy!
Marico Over The Wall (OTW) is a well-structured competition that has students qualify in multiple rounds to reach the finale. This high-octane B-School competition gives one the freedom to think freely and creatively. It is the perfect platform for an MBA student to don the hat of a business leader and look at one of the largest FMCG brands. Naturally, we- Ayush Kumar, Dhruvin Zaveri, and Riya Gupta did not want to let this opportunity go by. So we decided to call ourselves Team Game Changers and partook in this challenge that pushed us to think of ways to grow and diversify a brand that we have grown up with.
Marico Over The Wall S10: Structure
Marico OTW S10 competition was divided into 5 stages, which were as follows:
Round 1: Marico Quiz
Round 2: Campus Face-off (A)
Round 3: Campus Face-Off - Partner Presentation Submissions (B)
Round 4: CXO Round
Round 5: Grand Finale
What made this challenge unique was the access to CXOs, immersive mentoring sessions, and the live project round. This is something that sets apart Marico Over the Wall from all other competitions. The problem statement was structured such that it gave us a taste of running and owning a startup. OTW is a learning experience like none other!
The Game-Changing Challengers
Our Team Game Changers was a team where things just clicked! This challenge not only got the 3 batch mates closer but also left us with lifelong learnings. The whole experience was extremely exciting, and we found each other up bright and early, rearing to go at it.
We believe that the best ideology to win such business school/ case study competitions is to ‘divide and conquer’. And we made the best possible use of it. We ensured to equally distribute tasks that played to each of our strengths. This gave us a solid foundation to build on.
- Dhruvin was the finance guy. He did an amazing job with numbers from the start right up to the final round. He handled numbers so brilliantly that we were even appreciated for them.
- Ayush was responsible for designing and building the supply chain. The fact that he specifically learned Photoshop just goes to show his commitment. The judges were left in awe of the product packaging, and they made it a point that the team knew about it.
- Riya took charge of the actual presentation and the marketing game plan. After all, what is a product if not marketed and sold well?
Each member of our team contributed their bit to the final presentation and product in a manner that enabled us to bring out the best in every segment, which ultimately worked as the winning formula.
The Important Learnings
The OTW Season 10 wasn’t just a learning experience for us but a major defining moment of our MBA journey.
- It showed us firsthand the wonders that out-of-the-box thinking can do if one managed to attain feasibility with it!
- We also realized that the age-old saying - the devil is in the details holds true 100%.
- Details truly do matter, from the product packaging to the ingredients one chooses. It is these details that act as a differentiating factor on D-Day.
- We also got to see things from a business’s perspective, the nitty-gritty details of launching a product and the care that must be exercised.
A Few Parting Words
