MBA admissions 2021: The perfect guide for choosing an MBA college
MBA Admissions 2021 have started and the process to get into a good MBA college is a long shot. First of all, one needs to decide the management course and then the selection of the MBA college follows. This decision involves thorough research about each MBA college and the courses it provides. Other significant variables that need to be taken into account are eligibility requirements, admission process, alumni network, placements etc.
Know that you have to take the MBA application process as seriously as studying for CAT/XAT or other MBA exams because if you don't apply to the appropriate B-Schools, it might become difficult to get admission even after getting 99 percentile! Also, for each MBA college, fees for each application form is between INR 1500-2500.
Points to consider during the MBA admissions 2021 process
- Cut off and eligibility for all the exams attempted
- Carefully pick the course, whether you want to opt for an MBA or a PGDM
- Measure the total amount you pay, not just the fee for tuition fee
- Look at the placement reports, the average CTCs, and top recruiters
- Only trust the finest rating & accreditations
- Do not overlook the most relevant parameter - faculty of the B-School
- Give it a thought - whether the location of the college matters or not
- General MBA or specialized MBA
- A strong legacy & foundation of alumni because network matters
- Check out the infrastructure & facilities because a strong ambiance promotes outstanding learning
Strategizing
The eligibility requirements are the first and foremost criteria in selecting MBA college for admission . Different B-Schools recognize distinct national or state level scores or their own entry test scores for which a minimum overall (sometimes also sectional) cut-off is prescribed. For instance, IIMs have sectional cut-offs along with the overall cut-offs. Many other top colleges such as MDI, IMI, IMT consider overall cut-offs. Instead of solely considering the admission exam grades, some such as SPJIMR concentrate more on academic profile and accomplishments.
So, before you step forward to make your MBA college decision, check which exam you are appearing in and whether the B-School will approve the admission score, and what is the cut-off.
The fee structure
Determine the total fee and expenses for 2 years of your college and not just the tuition fee, as the tuition fee will account for only 50-60% of the total expenses. If you add laptop expenses, other research materials, boarding & lodging expenses, other B-School deposits, the overall fee would be much bigger.
Placement opportunities
Check what are the average placements over the years in the B-School before making a decision. What MBA program gets the best placement? Who are the top recruiters? Before you make a big investment in your MBA program, these questions need to be addressed.
Location of the college
The MBA colleges that are located in or near a commercial area have better future job prospects and the recruiters find it easy to visit such campuses for hiring. Hence, pay heed to the location of the campus as well.
Alumni network
The older the B-School, the higher its alumni base is, which leads to a stronger career choice due to its wide network. You will know simply by comparing the 20 IIMs where the older ones complete their placement as early as in February with high salary packages, the newer ones struggle sometimes.
Infrastructure and development
Good management is meant to provide well-equipped classrooms, library, auditorium, residential accommodation to campus students so that they can make the best use of the library, laboratories and get mentorship from their teachers. Choose a B-School where you can extend your wings!
