The Ministry of External Affairs has invited applications for 75 internship positions as part of the Amrit Mahotsav program. As per the notification released by the Ministry, at least 30% of the 75 interns will be filled by women candidates. The MEA internship programme will begin on April 1, 2022, and will be for a maximum period of 3 months.

In a bid to be inclusive of diversity, the Ministry of External Affairs plans to hire two interns from each state and UT. Three more interns will be hired from the TADP districts who come from underprivileged economic backgrounds.
Responsibilities of the interns
During the internship, candidates will be introduced to the process of formulation of foreign policy and how it's implemented on the ground. The interns will be responsible for conducting research and analysis and writing reports on the developments.
In the final phase of the internship program, candidates will have to submit a detailed report on the work carried out, and in some cases, they will also be asked to make a presentation on it.
Eligibility Criteria for the MEA internship
- The candidate has to be an Indian Citizen
- Must be a graduate from a recognized university at the time of application
- Students in the final year of their Graduation may also apply for the internship
- Age should not exceed 25, as of December 31, 2021
How to Apply for the MEA internship?
Step 1: Go to the official website of the internship portal
Step 2: Click on the ‘Register’ tab on the top right corner of the homepage
Step 3: Enter the required details and register for the internship by submitting it
Step 4: You will receive a form, along with the list of documents required to be uploaded
Step 5: Fill up the form with the relevant details and submit the application
Selection Process
Candidates will have to visit the internship portal to obtain the access credentials required to apply for the internship programme. A quota cum weightage system will be followed where candidates belonging to all 28 states and 8 UTs will be considered.
There will be two stages to the selection process. The first stage will involve a preliminary screening, whereas the second stage will have a personal interview round.
Stipend Details
The interns will be paid a monthly honorarium of INR 10,000 for the services they will render to the ministry. Additionally, the ministry will also cover the costs of one-time to-and-fro air travel subject to the prevailing economy class airfare from the domicile state of the candidate to New Delhi. However, when in New Delhi, the interns will have to make their own arrangements for lodging and food.
Preparation of Merit list
The names of the shortlisted candidates will be announced on the website on February 18, 2022. The interviews will take place between 22nd to 24th February. The final list of eligible candidates will be released on 28th February, and the interns will be allocated divisions subsequently.
The Ministry of External Affairs has said that the merit list will be prepared state-wise and there will be separate lists for male and female candidates. Elimination will be done based on the candidates’ academic performance (percentage of marks obtained) in Class 12 and graduation exams.
However, if a selected candidate backs out from the offer, the candidate next-in-line from that state will be offered the position.
